Timing of HCG shot and IUI on holiday....

The nurse called today and according to my ultrasound and estradiol #s.  My est. is 465 and I have two big follicles...Sat, I had four, but two of them are not large as of today.  Anyway, after the results on Sat. They upped my HMG.  Today after my #s came in, the RE said to do the HCG shot tomorrow night between 8-9pm and then come on Thanksgiving AM for IUI..not set time as of yet due to someone having to be on call to come in and do it.  
Saying all that to ask----My dh will not be home until after 10 tomorrow night.  Is this a problem?  There is NO way I can give it to myself in the rump.  I was wondering if an hour or so would make that much of a difference....

My RE did not tell me to do it any differently than what I have been doing...put it in my hip.  
I am thinking because the IUI will be on Thanksgiving, the nurse wants it done at this certain time for her schedule, which I completely understand.  She said it would be done in the AM for sure.

Ive done two IVF's and my HCG has always been IM.  I guess IUI is different.  The only shot that was Subcutaneous was the Lupron taken at the beginning.  Best advice is to ask your RE where he wants it done and what timing is best for your schedule.  You could also look at the needle that you have.  If it is a 18g 1 1/2" needle and a 22g  also then it is IM. One to mix and one to inject.

I don't know about IVF but for IUI, I've always been instructed to do the shot subcutaneous not intramuscular.  Subcutaneous is in the layer of fat between the skin and muscle.  You should do it however your dr told you to do it.  Either way here is a link to tell you how:

The first page tells you how to mix the meds and at the bottom there are two links. One for subcutaneous and one for intramuscular.  

From my experience with IUI, an hour is not going to make or break the situation.  If you are that concerned about it, you could go up to your dh work and have him do it there.  I've done that before when mine was working the late shift (6pm to 6am). If that isn't an option for you, you could ask a friend or family member.  Or you could just call your dr and ask him what is best.

From personal experience the HCG injection has to go intermuscular so cannot go in the stomach.  The timing is everything from an IVF standpoint retrieval has to be done within 36 hours from the time you take the injection.  I am not sure about IUI.   If you go an hour later then you would just go an hour later.   You could give it to yourself in your leg muscle.  However the drawback it will hurt more and I think the upper right corner is used because of proximity to the necessary organs.

You can give it to your self in the stomach if you want.  I think most do it in the stomach, but if you don't want to do it yourself, an hour will not make any difference.  They are trying to time the IUI in the best possible window of opportunity and an hour will not change that.

BTW, my RE used the same timing between shot and iui as you are doing, and I got BFP twice.

I wouldn't think so, especially since they haven't give you a time to come in yet. I mean, let's say you took it at 9 p.m. and came in the next morning for an IUI at 9 a.m. That would be the same as taking it at 10 p.m. and IUI at 10 a.m. right? I would just ask when they call back with the time of your appointment...but I think taking it at 10 would be fine :-)
