Trying to conceive with subclinical hypothyroidism

Hi
I am 36 and we have been ttc our second child for nearly a year now and in that time I have been having tests for subclinical hypothyroidism. My tsh level is 4.6 and thyroid antibodies have also been detected. I have read loads about tsh levels needing to be between 1 and 2 for successful conception and pregnancy but dr won't treat me, he has referred me to an endocrinologist but not holding out much hope! Anyone know anything about this or know of an endo in the London area who will treat sub-clinical hypo? Please help as getting desperate now and so sick of being fobbed off by my gp.

yep you def should be on something, I too was so sick of getting fobbed off I wanted to scream and my tsh levels wernt as high as yours!! the problem is that most lab/doctors still go by the old range of normal and that can be as high as 4-5, even if they go by 5 yours is def way up there and you shoulod be treated, mine was 2.8 and have finally found a doctor who would listen to me, mind you I had to scroll the internet and print off alot of info and highlight it for him to read, I think it also help that he is an acupuncturist as well, so he was abit more "open" my old doctor thought 5 was fine and wouldnt treat until it was getting closer to 10 wtf with that!!! the american assosication of endochronoligists adn alot of re's say that a tsh level of 1-2 is desireable for conception with 1 being ideal, the normal range was changed in 2003 to a max of 3 its a pity that doctors wertn made to keep up with the new standards!! good luck

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello hope you are doing well.
In Hashimoto’s disease there is presence of antibodies in the blood which start attacking the thyroid gland .Any thyroid dysfunction can result in miscarriage, preterm delivery and decreased I.Q in the baby. Hence it is important to control these levels. See an endocrinologist. He will examine you and advise treatment based on your thyroid hormone level. Get your doubts clarified .Do get your thyroid levels controlled before conceiving. Write to me again with more queries.
Best wishes and regards!
