I have a bit of a dilema and just wanted to put this out there to find out what you all think about this.
I was on Clomid for 2 cycles now on alternate months. Before Clomid I Ovulate natually and based on the blood work and semen analysis the conclusion was that we have "unexplained infertility
, my doc gave me 3 months of refills for the clomid, said to come back when I get a BFP, no follow up nothing, now on here I feel the same way, he just gave me the meds and said to do it on the day after I get a positive opk, that was it....hope this helps but ur not alone
Doesn't sound like they are really monitoring you very well. You should be having bloodwork and U/S after you take clomid to monitor ovulation. You would want to test with OPK for the 5 days and then followup with doc to see if you indeed ovulated. I don't think multiples should be there biggest worry. yes, there are those who do conceive multiples with clomid, but it seems as if they are giving you the run around.
i agree with mareski, they don't seem to be monitoring u very well. i started my 1st round of clomid on last month July 23, had an u/s on july 31 to see look at my eggs, then i took my ovidrel shot August 1, going back to the dr this friday for blood work. u might need to change drs. good luck and keep us posted
Is this just a general OBGYN doc, or a RE specialist. I have found usually the OBGYN doc, happily prescribe clomid and dont follow up, and the true RE specialist, that are doing there job well, do.
Clomid can have side effects - one of those is where your ovary can get distended trhough multiple follicles
off its own blood supply. This needs to be monitored for, as if it happens its can be life threatening.
One of my clomid cycles was like this and i had a lot of US that month to monitor everything - it went well. but its just one avenue of why US monitoring is good, ruptured fallopian tubes are not good.
Also the US covers things like if your developing a healthy endometrium lining, good enough to sustain an implantation, if you are actually responding to clomid and producing follicles
as they take a base line around day 3 -5, and then see how much they have grown around day 12.
You dont say your age, but if you older, definalty be more agressive about reading up and what you need as time is short. i'm 40 and wishing we'd been more with it 5 years ago.
Thank you every one for your comments. This has really got me thinking.
Just to update I am 30yrs old and live in Canada.
bncybncytigger: Thank you for the very detailed info. My doctor is a RE specialist. Now I am so surprised and angry that she has neglected me like this.
I started getting worried as since my first Clomid cycle I havent been able to track my Ovulation date. Although prevoulsly I was able to pin point the date with OPKs. I wonder Clomid has messed my system up so I am no longer Ovulating.
Here in Canada we can't go to a specialist unless we have a referral from a family
I just finished my first cycle of clomid - they had me doing weekly ultrasounds to track the progress of folicles in my ovaries - once we got the dosage right and got the follicles to mature - they had me do an Ovidrel shot and timed intercourse - my dr has been very helpful explaining everything and monitoring everything very closely. I also have PCOS - Having a thorough and helpful dr makes a world of difference. Have you thought of a new dr? My OBGYN recommended me to this fertility dr and I am so thankful!
