What is the title for a ob/gyn specialist

Hi, I recently had a m/c at 16.5 weeks. I had a relatively healthy pg but at my 16 w check the drs couldn't find the baby's heartbeat, our baby had lost life, an u/s confirmed this. I was just wondering if anyone knows what an ob/gyn specialist is called.  I have looked this up but can't find a name for it. I don't think I need to see an RE b/c I did get pg but I want to have testing done to make sure I don't have anything wrong with me before we ttc again.

Usually, with a loss late in the 1st trimester later, they do testing to determine a cause. With my loss at 12wks, they did karyotyping to see if there was anything genetically wrong (very common at my age). My loss was caused by a ruptured placenta.

Depending on the cause, would determine what type of specialist you may need, if any.  Did they say when the baby stopped growing? Did they do any tests?

I am really sorry for your loss. It is hard to get through and it certainly makes us scared to try again. In most cases, it is not a recurring problem.

I am so sorry for your lost. I also had a m/c at 7weeks and 6 days.  i'm not sure what the name is try going to see fertility dr. they will be able to run test

Tina-thanks for your support. They are doing some tests on the placenta samples to see if there was anything wrong with it or possibly genetic problems. The baby stopped growing at 14.5w but I didn't find out until 16.5w.  My ob/gyn is not doing any other type of testing on me though. I just want to make sure there is nothing wrong with me before we ttc again. I suppose I will call an RE, maybe they will be able to tell mewhat my next step should be.

I am so sorry for your loss. I can totally understand what you have been going through. I lost my baby at 18.3 weeks. One day it was fine and the very next day it was gone. I kind of went into labor. I was sent to a Maternal Fetal medicine doctor. They are supposed to be experts. My was inconclusive and they could not come up with any answer. All the tests came back normal.

It seems to me like it took around 3wks for me to get the results back. Once you have them, you will know which type of dr you will need. It really all depends on whether or not it was genetically related. I am sorry.
