When should I see a fertility doctor?

Hello everyone, well my husband and I have been ttc for 13months, but nothing has happened. At first I really, really wanted a baby and I still do, but sometimes (rarely) I have my doubts since we are so young (we are 22) and have not graduated from college yet (1 more year left). Even so, we keep trying and I am so scared that I might be infertile because I know I do want a baby soon. My periods are very irregular and I feel that that might be the problem. Maybe I am not ovulating, but I don't know. I talked to my doctor about it and she recommended me to see a fertility specialist and find out how much my insurance covers. I found out my insurance covers fertility medications and treatment. Should I go see a fertility specialist now or when I am truly ready to go through the fertility procedures?? If I am not infertile now, is there a risk I might become infertile later if I wait to check myself? In the meantime we would keep ttc and if pregnancy should occur, we would be truly ecstatic.

I'd say wait until you are both done with school. It is best to have as many options availible to you as possible. With school behind you, you can focus more of your time on a family.  You are young and have plenty of time to work out the details.  Best of luck to you both!!

my Ob had me have an HSG and DH have swimmers checked and even  was gonna prescribe 3 rounds of clomid before sending me to RE.  You are very young and do have plenty of time putting off going to the Dr wont make you infertile, but you need to be sure you are boht ready.  You could have your tubes checked and DH swimmers checked just so you know where you stand.  I wanted to do that before we started TTC but my old Dr wouldn;t do anything until we had tried for 1 yr, and you have been.  It is great that your ins covers fertility treatment mie did not.  good luck
