Hi hun!

My cousin had that put in a few weeks after she had her baby and she kept complaining about the smell down there.  She went to the dr. to have it taken out because she was fed up with it and the dr. discovered she did in fact have a bacteria infection.  I'm not sure if they're common or what as I've never had one either but definitely go have it checked out!!  Wishing you the best, hope everything works out. :)

I'm not that familiar with IUD's (never used one myself), but if there's a foul odor, I would probably go and get a second opinion from a different doctor. Good luck! I hope you get an answer to what's going on soon.
