reversal on Valentine's Day in 2005. Six months post reversal his sperm count was only at 500,000. Now, last sperm analysis was absolutely zero! We were both devastated. I have never had a problem conceiving. I was pregnant at 18 and gave the baby up for adoption. I got pregnant again at 23 and had a son who is now almost ten. Husband had 3 daughters from a prior marriage. We have decided to try IVF but I am so new to this subject I am not sure even what to expect. First appointment is on the 29th. Sometimes I think I'm just being punished for the son I gave up for adoption back in 1993 . . .Just so sad
You are NOT being punished. Just had to say that right out and emphatically.
You are just not having any luck right now. Give it time, talk with your docs about your concerns. Sometimes things take more time to achieve than we want, or sometimes they don't happen at all for reasons that right at this moment are unknown to us.
Do what you can to stay healthy and work to achieve your goal of a baby. That's all you can do except for prayer. And that certainly doesn't hurt.
Try to keep a positive outlook on this. You are just beginning the journey, it's too soon to call it a failure.
Definitely not being punished. Stop being so hard on yourself :) Adoption is one of the most unselfish acts there is. You gave someone the greatest give they could ever receive. I wish more women would turn to adoption over abortion
is quite rare. I mean, while the vasectomy is in place, sperm are usually still present, just very, very low qty. There are conditions that cause the absence of sperm. I cannot site them, but there have been a few male posters over the yrs that had the condition. Sometimes, it is not correctable and others it is. Start with his urologist to see what is happening. Sometimes something as simple and an unknow infection can kill the living sperm. Antibotics may be the answer. Usually, they will repeat the sperm analysis a couple of weeks later. Any chance the lab was in error?
how long did your husband have his vasectomy before he had in reversed? My husband had one done about 10 years ago and we decided not to have a reversal because it has been so long and figured it wouldn't work. Just curious..
Thank you to all who have responded! Your kind words are appreciated. My husband's original vasectomy was 12 years ago. He had the reversal three years ago.
I am not sure lab is in error and I doubt that it is. He did have some epididymitis problems and a sperm granuloma so that may have blocked any release of sperm. They aren't saying he doesn't produce sperm, just saying there is no sperm in his ejaculate. The urologist that did the reversal said the ultrasound showed that scar tissue had grown through the reconnection sites. For us, I think we would have to look at ISCI for sperm retrieval.
