anyone have an HSG?

Hi!  ok, here's my background, had an ectopic pregnancy oct. 2006 that was terminated in Dec. 2006 with methotextrate.  Been TTC again since april.  NO luck. :o(  Switched OBGYN's in July and he suggested that we do a Hysterosalpingogram (HSG).   I Have read up on it and understand what it is.  Wondering why my previous Dr never wanted to have it done.   Really glad I switched DR.s.  just wondering if anyone else has had one and how they felt afterwards.  I have mine scheduled for the 17th of this month and they told me to make sure I have someone to drive me home!  Luckily my DH is home until the 24 th recovering from hernia surgery so he can take me. Just wondering if it is really going to be that bad.  any info will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks so much for sharing all of your experiences!!  I am really hoping that everything goes well and neither one of my tubes is blocked.  But then we still have to figure out why we haven't been able to  concieve since my ectopic last year.  Was just telling my DH that it would kinda nice if this HSG kinda flushed things out and I am able to get pregnant in the next few months since I got pregnant last Oct! Thanks again.  hope everyone has a great weekend.

I had one.  It was not that bad.  I had some cramping during the procedure, but it only lasted about 30 seconds and it was over.  For the rest of the day I was perfectly fine.  I would recommend taking advil about an hour or so beforehand.  I took 2 advil, and I think that is what really helped me have minimal pain.  Don't worry - you will be fine.

Hello. I've had two several years apart. The first one i had was a little painful and I bled alot with clotting immediately afterwards. It stopped within half hour.  I was told to take motrin 1/2 hour before and i had what was like bad period cramping for about an hour then it stopped. My mom came with me but I ended up driving us BOTH back the hour and a half it took to get home with no problems. The second my husband drove back. i didn't have as much cramping and the bleeding was not present this time.  The tube was even blocked worse this time so you never know what you'll feel like. It's not that bad though compared to other things, good luck with yours, hoping you have good results.

My HSG was also not bad at all.  Similar to a pap but with a little more pressure as they insert the dye.  Just take the ibuprofen beforehand like they recommend.  I drove myself there and home that day too - no big deal.  I also heard if you have a blockage it can be more painful.

I had one and it is not that bad.  When they actually insert the catheter it was bad but by the time I thought I  might hyperventalate the pain was gone....I actually had pain that lasted longer when I sufered a leg cramp while trying to turn so they could have a better view LOL  I took some ibuprofin before and felt fine after.  I have heard if there is a blockage there is more pain as the dye is pushed through.  good luck

The actualy procedure can be very uncomfortable...I have had 2...Fortunately, the last one was done while I was having Lap.surgery so I was out.  It is a pulling sensation.  The Dr. that did my first one said the pain is good because that means the dye is traveling through the tubes freely with no blockages.  After the actual procedure, I was fine.  I did not need anyone to drive me home....I was not given any drugs or anything.  A lot of people recommend taking Motrin an hour or so before the procedure.  As soon as the tube was removed, I had no discomfort.
Best of luck!!!!
