artificial insemination

I have had alot of help with my own problems and i now have a question for my friend.  She had artificial insemination two weeks ago.  She is experiencing brown discharge and cramps.  She is very upset and thinks it did not work... it is likley that it did not?  Or is this normal?

What did she have, IUI or IVF? If it's been two weeks, she could probably already use a home pregnancy test to see if she's pregnant... I'm assuming that she has a blood test scheduled soon? I didn't have any brown discharge myself, but I have been cramping since my IVF, and all my HPTs show positive! Best of luck to your friend!

I agree....with my IVF, I didn't have any brown discharge. The cramping is normal but her blood test should be coming up soon if she hadn't taken a HPT yet.

To be honest, I have no idea what the difference is... (Im very new to all of this, not trying to sound ignorrant) Im guessing invetro fertizlation is IVF? She did not have that, so i guess its the IUI.  Unfortunatly, and ironically 5 minutes after posting this, she called to say she got her period.  Have you been through this?  This was only her first time, i have heard that it usually doesnt take the first time.  

pol79princess, I need to learn so much.  Whatever an HPT is, i assume thats what your looking for!  Thats exciting.  I said a prayer for you!  I'll say another, so excited for you!

Sorry about all the lingo :) HPT is a home pregnancy test, and yes, IVF stands for in vitro :)  Sorry to hear that it didn't work out for her :( I'm not sure that it is a rule that it doesn't take the first time, but it definitely may take a little while for the doctors to figure out what dosage of medications works best etc. I had 4 IUIs and always over-responded to the meds, which also made me a good candidate for IVF. Read up on IUIs and IVFs; it's really easy to understand, just don't want to bore everyone with that here lol. Best wishes!
