Carly - congrats on your pregnancy! That's great news - on the nausea, I'm sure you know all of the normal stuff - ginger either in soda or in lollipops, crackers, eat very slowling, etc. When I had similar nausea, I ended up taking Zofran for the entire pregnancy & once at my re's office when the vomiting wouldn't stop, the nurse gave me a shot of Phenegran which helped tremendously. Sorry you're having the nausea - it's all for a good cause but it still can make one miserable!! - jen
Hiya all, sorry I took so long to reply. Have really been suffering in the last week and ended up going back to where we had the IVF for a scan and blood test. They confirmed that I have mild to moderate OHSS and that it should go down. I am now nearly a week on and I feel a little better, still very bloated and get uncomfortable if I stand for too long, but just hoping it goes for Christmas. Also amd suffering with cold and early morning sickness ( yes I said morning sickness, it was confirmed that I am indeed pregnant), although my morning sickness seems to lst all day. Anyone got any ideas on how to ease it, I didnt get any symptoms the whole time I was preg with my son, so its all so new. Help
What Maria2702 said is very true. My doctor told me intially to limit my fluids to just over a liter a day. Now I know some people will tell you differently but this is how my RE explained it to me. Your ovaries are leaking and probably lots of them. That fluid is going into your peritoneal cavity (the lining just around your abdomen that prevents your diaphragm from sticking when you breath.) If you take in an excessive amount of fluid (fluid overload) it has no where to go so it will start to back up in your chest or like Maria 2702 you will have to go and have the fluid removed with a needle in your abdomen.
She told me to monitor my weight and report any excessive weight gain. She told me to stay slightly active but no running a marathon :), and she told me to increase my protein. I did this for the first week and sure enough I started peeing like crazy. The next week I increased my fluids to about 1 and 1/2 Liters, pushed the protein and the pee really started coming but also the gas (yuck but my belly felt tons better). Tommorrow I will be 4 weeks pregnant and I am still swollen but it is sooo much better. One of the other girls in my IVF cycle kept pushing the fluids and the ended up in the emergency department where they took 2 liters of fluids out of her lungs. She was so swollen. Once I saw her I reduced my fluids for 2-3 days and I started to see results.
I hope this helps. My RE did repeat 2 vaginal ultrsounds to measure my ovaries and the amount of fluid in my belly. So if you have not had one you may ask your doctor to check it for you. My ovaries went from a 15mm down to 6mm on 2nd ultrasound.
I am very excited for you.
Bloating is a sign that you are pregnant. It is the HCG harmones responsible for the bloating because of fluid retention due to hyperstimulation.
I had severe bloating due to hyper-stimulation after embryo transfer. On 8th day of transfer I took a HPT and it came positive. So thats good news. But you have to take some preventive measures. Are you peeing regularly and enough? Drink lots of fluids, preferably drink Gatorade . Check your weight every day. If you are gaining more than two pounds a day call your doctor immediately. Also do you have shortness of breath? Dont sleep for long times, you should keep walking otherwise there is a fear of blood clots.
The bloating lasted for two weeks for me and in between, it had become so hard for me to even stand up. I was in the emergency and they removed 1600 ml of fluid from my abdominal area. Take care...Good luck!! Keep us posted.
I hope it is good news, it is so long since my pregnancy with my son 9 yrs ago, it seems almost impossible that after such a long wait, we could finally be there. fingers crossed. is the bloated thing dangerous, im not feeling sicky at all, just very bloated and my stomach is as hard as a rock its scary. does the Gatorade thing work?
Yes, the bloating is a good sign. You should do some research on OHSS or ask your RE. I went to my RE the morning of my 1st beta and told her how miserable I was. The sharp abdominal pain, feeling like you want to vomit but can't- she said, " I don't have to wait for your beta, you're pregnant." It comes from your body releasing all of those hormones + the hormones we took and the ovaries are hyerstimulated and still growing. She told me the fluid leaks out of your ovaries and into the abdominal cavity. I had my transfer on the14th Nov and by 20 or 21 Nov I was miserable. I went in to see her on the 25th Nov and she told me that it will last anywhere from a couple of weeks til about 5-6 weeks. I am still swollen today but not nearly as much. She told me to take it easy, drink plenty of Gatorade and Ensure. This helps maintains your fluid and electolytes and the Ensure has the protein that your cells require to move the fluid back inside.
Sounds like you have all the signs for BFP!! Good luck

Well mine lasted from my meds and after the transfer. I'm still bloated too but I'm thinking it is from pregnancy. We are having twins and I'm almost 6 weeks. I'm sorry, I know it's uncomfortable. Wishing you good numbers on your blood test! Monday just can't get here fast enough I'm sure
It is 1st IVF cycle, although we do have a son of 9, we have the blood test on Monday. I am so uncomfortable with the bloated feeling, how long does it last for??
Oh my gosh being bloated is totally normal. I swear I looked pregnant after being on stims for a while and the bloatedness just stayed!! I'm not sure if it's a good sign of pregnancy. Was this your first IVF cycle? I hope the tww (two week wait) goes by fast for you!
