caffine

caffine

Ok so I am curious how many of you still drink caffine on a daily basis? Do you think it effects fertility.  I have my vice of diet coke and I know I should quit but do you really think one a day (or two) will keep an egg from implanting?  I have enough strikes against me that I am willing to give it up but.....

I'm not sure about the implantation thing (as I sip my cup of coffee) :o)  All I've heard based on someone's experience about drinking caffeine during pregnancy was my boss who told me - "I'm not saying there's a definite connection, but I will say that for my first son I didn't drink any caffeine and he was the most mellow baby and still is at age 13.... but with my second son I drank a cup of coffee a day and he had colic, needed constant attention and was completely hyperactive growing up!" - like she said, she's not trying to say there is a definite connection, but it was her experience.  I've been trying to cut out the caffeine, and if I could just stop getting sick with things like mono that zap your energy level down to nothing, I could probably do it.  I'll be interested to hear what others who may have experience themselves have to say.

I have given up caffeine all together........sure do miss my diet coke's!!  I have read where it is safe to drink up to 150mg of caffeine a day, but also where caffeine blocks calcium absorption, so I chose to cut it out completely.

I did drink a ton with my DS probably about 2 a day and he is a mellow kid and really sweet so I doubt it is attributed to personality traits :)  I just want to maximize my chances but I still want those diet cokes here and there :)

There are studies that show that caffeine intake affects the lining of the uterus.  For us woman who have fertility problems, I'd suggest to cut it out completely.  There are teas that are decaf tthat I have switched to.  The peppermint flavor I have gotten used to.  It keeps my breathe smelling nice and the smell kind of gives me a zing.
My biggest sacrafice besides wine has been chocolate!!!  I had to have my daily intake.  I still crave it!!!!  But, I have given it all up.  I did however have a sliver of choco. cake at a recent celebration.  When I told my RE she was not happy about it.  So I guess a little can affect you too.

I haven't heard as much about caffine as I have the nutrasweet.  My mom gave me an article that identified nutrasweet as a BIG no no for pregnant women because it affects the babies brain development.  So if you drink the diet - start drinking regular.  :-)  If I ever get pregnant - I will probably cut out all both and I am with you - I love my diet drinks.

I gave caffeine up, and I gave up alcohol - for the most part - maybe an occasional glass of wine before Ov.
What i drink now is Decaf. Iced tea and Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi - but if u go out to restaurants you're pretty much stuck with ordering water or sprite...

Yea, chocolate is a tough one!  Twinkies have actually held my sweet tooth over pretty well though.  8-)
And lemonade has been my savior at the restaurants.  And water.  I think 7-up and root beer are also caffeine free.

I actually have diabetes (type 2 insulin dependent but the doctors are baffeled because I'm not overweight) so for me it's diet or water and I really don't need much chocolate especially the older I get the less i need the sweets.  I only drink about 2 cans a day of the diet coke (sometimes caffine free) and I do drink fresca.  but that is only about 100mg of caffine??? But I do think I will keep trying to quit I'm not addicted (like headaches or anything) I just like an alternative to water.

As for the nutri-sweet and brain development I would have to say don't believe everything you read and I think you could find articles to argue it either way but I do have friends who have adverse reactions to it (headaches, gas, ect) My endocrine doc has no problem with it nor do the dieticians so I think your pretty safe with it?  Each to their own on that one eh :)

On the nutra-sweet issue, my doctor asks that his patient eliminate all artificial sweetners and caffeine while undergoing treatment.  I do know that your body does not know how to process "fake" sugar which is why you can drink it and not have the caloric intake or insulin response normally produced by sugar.  But because your body does not process it, the argument is where does it go and what does it do. Hence all the theories on cancer, brain development, etc... Personally, I get terrible migraines if I drink or eat anything with aspartame.

Funny this topic is brought up because my sister swears she only conceived when she gave up caffeine!  She told me that's what I need to do to get pg.  She tried for 3 years to get pg to no avail.  She gave up caffeine and got pg soon afterward.  This happened to her twice (the second pg was unplanned when her daughter was 6 and she m/c it---but she remembered she dropped caffeine just before she conceived).  I figure it can't hurt to give it a try.

I love coffee any time of day, but I heard that caffeine causes your sugar to drop which causes your progesterone to drop.  Even on diets they say to limit or stop drinking or eating caffeine products b/c they make you crave sweets (b/c they drop your sugar). I stopped drinking coffee altogether and my headaches went away after a few days.  I was told (don't know how true) that even caffeine free coffee (drinks) still have a little caffeine.

I have very mixed emotions about giving up caffeine......
When I miscarried I started ACTIVELLY ttc, with no results.....in fact, i gave up EVERYTHING! i ate super healthy, didn't smoke, drink, or drink caffeine....no chocolates, and tryed preseed every month.....oh my gosh! i was a TTC machine!
Until i just realized, no matter how much i prayed, tryed, and starved myself from all the 'good' stuff...it wasn't gonna happen. There was something else there. And i found it. Now, it's taken care of, and STILL cannot conceive......so, my (i know very poor) attitude towards all this is: THE HELL with it! i conceived (my 1st. mc) without doing anything! just a lot of excersice, but didn't suppress anything else! and it happened!........im not living like this for years until it happens! if it happens it will....if not, i will adopt! screw it! this is too much to take.....being in constant what if with a baby that is not even in my womb yet.............argh!
Like i said....i know it's a poor attitude, but at this point, with so much i've been thru, i am just too tired and bummed about this.....=(
I still sip my morning java (monday-friday) and it's just half a cup (stirofoam) with lots of cream and shuggy baby!!!! lol ;)
