cervical fluids

Is it possible that the cervical fluid could be to harsh for the sperm to survive?  My husband and I went through all the testing and 5 rounds of IUI with the use of medications - no success.  I am wondering if there is something that can be done to make the cervical fluid more conducive for the sperm.  I am contemplating trying IVF in the next couple of months.  I have taken a 2 yr break from all of the treatments as I was finding it very stressful to go through and decided that I needed a break.  Thank you in advance for your time in this matter.

Yes, it is possible that cervical fluid is too harsh for sperm to survive. For most women, however, it becomes fertile around the time of ovulation to allow the sperm to swim through the cervix. In your case, though, I don't think that's the problem, since IUIs bypass the whole cervical mucus issue by delivering the sperm directly into the uterus. I'm sorry to hear of your struggles. I've been there myself. We also had unexplained infertility (after two early miscarriages) and after several IUIs with and without medication, we ended up doing IVF last Spring...and it worked! I can totally relate to needing a break...just don't wait too long, since fertility can decline pretty fast in the late 30s. Best of luck to you and your husband!

I have never heard of cervical mucus harming the sperm. From what I know it helps them survive and swin their way to your eggs. When my cervical mucus dried up when I used Clomid my OB prescribed me Estrogen to bring it back to normal. I'm thinking that done the trick because that cycle I got my BFP! Good luck to you and I hope you get some positive news soon.

Sperm can only survive in fertile cervical fluid which is like egg-whites or thin n slippery.
You can use a sperm friendly lubricant like pre-seed and i have also heard  that taking Robitussin (Plain) from the end of your periods till ovulation can also make your cervical mucus thin.
