No during the first 12 weeks, then you can. That is when the fetus is developing important organs and stuff and when most problems happens so AVOID IT OK!
Some people avoid it the whole pregnancy,,,, I know I can't so do what you want but don't do it the first three months
there is no concrete evidence that hair dye increases the risks of birth defects though there is no sure way to say it doesn't have an effect either, so most drs will say to avoid it during the first trimester and then I would suggest highlighting or something that does not put chemicals directly onto your scalp. And have a well ventilated area and keep the chemicals on no longer than absolutely needed to get the desired effect. :) My mom is a hair dresser and worked around chemicals while pregnant for both my brother and I and we turned out just fine....I think...LOL! :)
NO NO NO - why would you even consider putting your baby at risk? I wouldn't even dye my hair if I WASN'T pregnant - those chemicals are aweful for you too! Not worth it in my book.
I have to disagree ;) Dying your hair is perfectly okay as long as you're out of your first trimester. I did it every 6 weeks before getting pregnant & have done it twice since being pregnant & my babies are perfectly fine ;) Definitely ask your ob. I would go by what he/she says :)
Hi,
It's great you're concerned about this issue.
I would definitely not dye by hair during pregnancy, because I tend to be extra cautious with environmental toxins. The rate of growth of your baby is phenomenal now. If you do, you may want to consider using a "safer" product.
The Environmental Working Group has products listed by their safety
hazard.
I was surprised to learn a few years back that the government does not require health studies or pre-market testing for cosmetics and other personal care products before they are sold.
Here's the EWG's rating of hair dyes if you are in fact going to dye your hair.
They have safety
I was trained as a hair dresser, and we preferred NOT to dye a woman's hair during the first trimester because with all the hormones in a woman at that time, the risk of allergic reaction
to the dye was greater. (things that a person was not previously sensitive to, may become an issue while in early pregnancy)
I think that if I were to dye my hair myself while pregnant (which I fully intend to do), I would purchase an ammonia free dye, and make sure that I was in a well ventilated area. I suppose getting low-lights or hilights is an option (so very little touches the scalp) - but it depends on your hair colour/style. I have been pretty grey since I was 22, and my hair is currently dyed quite dark. I definitely wont be giving up my hair dye for 9 months. My mom coloured her hair all through her pregancy with both me and my brother, and we are AOK, I think ( I suppose that is a matter of opinion).
Why not ask your doctor for his/her official response. In the end, it just boils down to your own personal preference. Everyone has a different comfort level with things like this. You have to do what is right for you,
Hi there............... well I'm a senior stylist/colour technician, been working 4 a large well known company for 17 years + and I have no problem colouring any pregnant ladies hair!! I'm pregnant myself 20 wks..... and work with these so called chemicals all day everyday, I also colour my own hair (bleach then a toner) with this pregnancy and my last pregnancy with no problems! Health & safety
However If yr colouring yr hair for the first time you will need a patch test 48 hours before you apply yr colour............... any irritation red'ness Do not colour.
You may find that yr scalp/skin is more sensitive when yr pregnant due to extra hormones ie leading to a reaction.
