femara vs. Clomid

Ok took Clomid for 4 months ovulated 2 times on 50mgs third month no ovulation.  Fourth month increased to 100mgs and no bfp but had horrible side effects on the increased dose.  This month she put me on femara just wondering if people had some success using it?

Just got back from dr, CANNOT prescribe femara(letrozole) as not liscenced in the U.K, thought this would be the case, feel v despondant but the law is the law. Dr suggested taking provera and trying low dose of clomid 50mg for 2 mths, reluctant to do this as clomid gave me a cyst twice before(i was on higher dose 100-150 mg) but may just try again, has anyone here had a cyst from clomid and gone back on it after a missed cycle or two and had any SUCCESS? many thanks melissax

Hello these are really encouraging comments that I am going to share with my dr on friday, I was on clomid before ivf and after 3 cycles it gave me a cyst. we went on to ivf and had 3 failed cycles so now are trying again natuarly. I am 41 and do not ovulate so am willing to  try anything, femara sounds a good option but I think my doctor will be dubious as it hasnt been proven professionaly to help with fertility, heres hoping lots love melissax

Just wanted to share my experience. I did one cycle of Clomid through my OB/GYN (50mg) and it actually completely stopped me from having cycles on my own, which I originally was. Eventually a few months later I get to an actual fertility specialist. He put me on femara 2.5mg twice a day. I had no side effects from femara, whereas with clomid the side effects were terrible (moody, hot flashes, sore boobs, etc) femara was wonderful compared to clomid! my first cycle on femara I did not ovulate, but on my second round of femara i used hcg injection and got pregnant that way. good luck!!

hi there! I took Clomid 100 mg for two cycles ..unsuccessfully and like you , had horrible side effects including a thin lining..
I did do a Letrozole a.k.a Femara cycle and though wasn't pregnant..I definitely felt much better than with Clomid....and I have heard a lot of people get success with femara when clomid doesn't work for them!

I have a success story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was on clomid for 4 months. The first 3 months were given by my OB. 50mg, 100mg and 150mg. She then referred me to a RE.  He tried me on one more round of clomid 150mg to no avail.  I had an HSG done and all tubes were clear.  I was then put on letrozole (femara) days 3-7. Went in on day 14 for an u/s and had a follicle measuring 17.5mm.   Did OPK for a few days and got my +. Went in the following day and had IUI.
I am now 12.5 weeks pg with TWINS!
It can and it does work!!!  Best of luck to you
