getting pregnant with endo

getting pregnant with endo

I am open for suggestions. My gyn has recommended diagnostic surgery because he thinks i have endometriosis. I've had llq discomfort off and on for 4 months and my periods have recently become more painful, but not heavy. I have been against the idea of surgery since i have little pain tolerance and the treatments for endo mean delaying pregnancy. but i've recently read that surgery could improve chances of conception. i've now been off birth control for a year now. i'm not sure if i should go through with surgery in hopes of it increasing chance of pregnancy or if i should wait it out. any suggestions?

Endo does hinder fertility and a lap can repair it.  Also, many ladies have no endo symptoms but in fact have severe endo.  I had the diagnostic surgery for endo (note that I had no symptoms at all) and my ob found another problem that made conception impossible for us.  So, you never know what your dr may find.   We were trying for 2 years before going for a lap.
Good luck to you!

p.s. The surgery entails no pain; you will not even remember it.  Recovery was not very painful for me.  I was back to normal in 3 days but everyone is different.

Hello! as helen said it can defintely help having the lap.. i had no symptoms of endo at all except some mild spotting before my periods the year i had gotten off of the pill.. they went in and found one of the worst cases my dr had ever seen : (   we went straight to an RE to get help with getting pregnant.. (we have many other fertility issues as well) and with the help of a specialist have gotten preg twice, unfortuantely miscarried both times : ( so we are back at it.. i declined doing the medical treatment for the endo - lupron, since my dr along with the research i read showed that it may help, but its not proven, but it will just delay pregnancy.. i don't think there is enough research on endo and fertility.. as helen said the lap isn't bad at all.. i had a lot of work done and the motrin they gave me was allthe pain meds i needed.. you'll get a little achy in your shoulders and neck from the air, but thats about it.. pretty tolerable!   GOOD LUCK! : )

Hello,

I just had my lap done in Sept 08 and imagine my suprise when they found out i was a chronic endo sufferer. I had no symptoms ...well none i couldnt handle with painkillers. My surgeon removed 90% of it. I cannot recommend a lap enough if you have an option - as Helen said you never know what the doc finds and it could be a very simple issue they can sort out.

I was in surgery for 3 hours and had to stay in hospital. The surgery was not painful but the gas made me so uncomfortable!!! It took about a week for the gas to get better for me.

Good luck and I hope you get a BFP very soon!

I have had 2 laps due to endo. I highly recommend the surgery. It gives u piece of mind that ok I have endo and it is treatable rather than suffer in pain and always wonder what the heck is going on .

I was able to get preggers after my lap and now have a 2 year old daughter. Currently ttc baby #2.
My older sis who had endo even worse than me and had mutliple laps has 4 daughters. :)

Surgery itself was not too bad. I agree the gas they put into your abdomen to expand it is the worse thing. Hurt my shoulders for a week. :)

Thanks for all the input, I have an appt with my gyn on thursday to schedule surgery--the pain has gotten worse over the last couple of days since my period ended and I have come to realize that maybe surgery will help in our ttc mission.
i will also be scheduled for a cysto at the same time to make sure my bladder is ok too.
