gonal f

Hello,

Have any of you ladies been on Gonal F injections?  My dh and I have been ttc for 26 months and I've done 4 cycles of natural iui (no drugs) and now going straight to gonal f and trigger shot.  My fertility doc says clomid is not for me because I ovulate on my own.  We have offically been diagnosed with unexplained infertility.  I'm excited and trying to be hopeful but if this doesn't work I'm going to freak.  Any experiences anyone has had w/ injections would be helpful!  Thanks so much and good luck to all of you ttc:)

Thanx a lot for your support!!  I'm on IVF.  My egg retrieval is on Monday, at 10:00 a.m.  I have now 5 follicles from 13-19mm and in my right ovary 2 that are 18mm.  I responded with 12 days of gonal-f.  I am sooooo excited.  Thank you for supporting me and please wish me luck!!

hello , first time on this site, but yes I've use gonal F without any side effects, worked well and I responded well on my 2nd time with it, 2nd cycle of iui, my husband gives me the shots it helps with knowing that he's really into this with me and helps him feel included. good luck with your treatment, and as I've been reading here on the forum, lot's of baby dust to you.

Is this for an iui or ivf?

My RE likes for patients to stim for 9-12 days before triggering. If your follies grow 1-2mm a day, and you have up to 5 more days, your smaller follies should be between 14-19mms with the larger one between 20-25mms. Anything abpve 16 should have a mature egg in it. So, here is what can happen as I see it:

1) If this is an iui, your doc will probably trigger you in another two or three days. You will most likely have one egg at maturity. That is just right for an iui (from the bigger follie).
2) If this is an ivf (and maybe for the iui, too) your doctor will let the bigger, dominant, follie keep growing past what they normally like to see for follie size, thereby sacraficing it, and wait for the smaller follies to catch up. You would end up with up to three eggs from the smaller follies.
3) Your right ovary isn't out of contention yet, either. It could move and be more accessible as time progresses. Sometimes ovaries are accessible at retrieval time when they weren't before.

I think you are doing okay so far. I wish you luck and success!

I have been on gonal f for the last 4 days and was on it my last IVF cycle. (failed).  The only thing I get is headaches...but I don't know if this is from my other med I take with it.
I hope all things work for you.

I have been using gonal for 7 days now and the u/s showed 4 follicles in each ovary.  In my left ovary there are 3 follicles that are 9mm and 1 that is 15mm.  My right ovary is up high, so it won't work.  I am just hoping everying comes out fine next week.

I am a 34 year old female 1st try on Ivf now on day 4 Gonal F pen injection and no side effects yet. I did have some burning the 1st injection but better now. I started synarel on dec 28th 2006 and still got my menstrual. I had vag bleeding for 10 days but after 7 days just spotting. I called the doctor he told me it was ok and to keep using the Gonal F. I am very scared and hope I can get some advice from other gonal f users or just Ivf paitents thanx

You used the Gonal F for IVF right? How long were you on it and what day did you start? I'm confused my dr. said she was looking for 4-5 eggs for IUI on Gonal F. I have 6 follicles right now and will be taking HCG tomorrow night. Is it different for IVF because they are doing retrieval? This is so confusing!!!
Thanks and good luck

Sorry I had to do this....so I could remember what you asked:
Yes I used Goanl F for IVF...I think I started them on CD 2... I followed a strict protocol....I am sure it will be the same with you...lots of bloodwork and u/s...  I took about 150 a day and towards the end of using it, 250.  then my hCG shot....They probably way overstimmed b/c of retrieval....so it is good that you only have 6 follicles....4-5 eggs b/c they could potentially be babies!!!  I actually never did injectibles before IVF... I was nervous about how many eggs I would get and how many would fertilize, so we chose IVF becuase it is more controlled... We are extremely lucky to have insurance that covers it!!!  Good luck to you also!!!! Jacquie

My first dose was last night, the doc started me at 150 then tonight 75 and tomorrow 150.  I then go in on Friday for blood and u/s.  I started will one egg in my left ovary it measured 9.  Not sure if that means anything. I let dh give me the shot in the belly and it didn't hurt. Gosh I hope this works:) I'll let y'all know what my blood and u/s say on Friday!

Yes, they are being pretty aggressive with my treatment as I had a high FSH last month.  I have to do 3 cycles of IUI before my insurance will cover IVF.  I just had my day 8 ultrasound and counted 7-8 pics of follicles (the tech is not allowed to tell you anything)  So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good eggs!
Thanks for the info, I had no idea what dosage other people got!
Good Luck:-))))

di545...wow they are really stimulating your ovaries!!!  I only was on 150 for most of the time and then 2 days I did 225....   That produced 16 eggs....(they retrieved 16!!!)...so think what is happening with you...hopefully lots of little eggies!!!!  good luck!!

This is my first cycle on Gonal F with IUI.  I am on CD 7, and just took my 5th shot in the abdomen.  I haven't experienced any side effects other than some mild belly pains day 5.  I was a monster on clomid and thought this would be worse.  Surprisingly the shots are not painful.  What is your dose?  They started me at 350 but just dropped me today to 150, hopefully my ovaries are working overtime;-)
Good luck to you!!!!

I really didn't have any side effects.... with any of them...
oops, I take that back.... I had a headache for the first couple of days and then after that I had a stuffy nnose and sore throat (thought this was a cold until I read some of the side effects!!), but really, I am more moody now, with the progesterone shots.... the rest of them.....really nothing.... I am sure you will be fine...just don't think about it and all will be well!!!! Stay positive!!!!  Jacquie

did you have any side effects?  My dh's bestfriend said his wife was crazy.  I hope that doesn't happen to me. Yeah the gonal is expensive but I guess if you don't get pregnant in 2 cycles the third is free!  Hope to God that doesn't happen. If so I am on to IVF so I'm sure I will have more questions for ya.  Thanks for telling me your experience:)

Hey girl!!!  I used gonal-F for my stimulation....and they are very easy to use... I used the pen injection....the first dose was tricky but I kept reading the directions and there is a number to call if you have questions...In fact, I called it once b/c I wasn't sure how much was left in the pen, etc... and they had a nurse call me back!!!  It was awesome!!!  I have extra in my refrigerator!!! Wish you lived by me so I could give them to you!!!!! (I have three boxes!!!) anyway if you have any other specific ques. please let me know... oh, I injected them in my stomach... (they do not hurt- surpriseingly!!!)  2 times a day....  and had lots of visits and u/s done every other day ( I live 1 hour away from the Dr. so I would be there by 7am and then drive to work after)....as it got time for retrieval, I went for bloodwork everyday.... so be prepared to be your Dr.'s best friend!!!  Good luck to you!!!  I have also been TTC for 26 mo...  we have tried everything and now IVF!!!  ANYWAY, again, baby dust to you!!!
