how successful is Clomid?

I am 37 years old with 3 children from my first marriage. DH & I would like to have baby of our own we ttc for one year now, been for tests ultrasound, HSG where they saw a tiny cyst but Doc said this shouldnt be a problem of infertility as it's so small. DH has taken sperm count which was normal.  Doc put me on 50 mg of Clomid 5-9 cycle I have taken my 1st cycle of last pill today been tired and felt bloated but will ttc from days 10-18 of my cycle every other day as doc advised.  What I would like to know is Doc sent me for bloodworks B4 taking Clomid to detect if i'm ovulating but I have read others going for bloods during/after taking Clomid is there a major difference? also can I take folic acid? DH & I are very anxious wish every one luck and praying for you all!! I would love to hear any success stories as I'm a bit sceptical

I wouldn't think you would have to tell people how you conceived the most important part is that you did conceive. I'm sure you'd discuss the process of what you're going through with maybe your closest family or friends, but that's about it. Now in my opinion, a baby is a baby and it doesn't matter the measures I'm taking to conceive, as long as they're the most logical and best for me and my husband. I'm sure there are far more people out there that have struggled conceiving and they just don't say anything. Good luck to you and I hope you get your BFP very soon!

Wishing you luck i'm sure you'll be fine how long have you been ttc? Guess this would be your first? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? IF YOU'VE MISSED GO TEST!! I know it can be a let down but if you dont test how would you know? I am lucky I have 3 beautiful children from my first marriage DH is great with them but we just want one of our own, hope it doesnt sound selfish because I know there are others that dont have any :(  I really feel for them especially when there are stories of "accidents" and some are not happy with their pregnancy. Thanks it sounds you have a good feeling about me more than I have in myself!! lol

Welcome to the journey of baby making lol I am a "natural" person prefer not to be taking tablets to conceive i've even read people changing their diets to more herbal/organic foods to see if that would help (I wasnt sure to take folic acid with Clomid but it's o.k lol)...I havent had bad side effects, just bloating of the stomach and felt tired i guess everyone is different not sure how others on a higher dosage felt.  Just thought if/when others conceive on Clomid do they keep a Clomid baby a secret or tell family, friends, strangers that you had a Clomid baby - how do you think they would respond? same with IUI/IVF babies??

The thing of it was, I had no idea she had struggled so much until my husband and I decided to ttc. My sister made a comment that my mom had been a fertile myrtle, seeing as how she had 4 children, but then my mom said that she was actually technically infertile. We all had no idea. It makes me concerned for my own experience, but at the same time, she ultimately had 4 kids, so something worked in the end! Good luck to you- I am beginning to suspect that I might be pregnant, but I am afraid to test because of that terrible letdown that comes from a negative result... We'll see what happens. I am not currently going through any reproductive therapy, so if it doesn't work out, I may still have options. I have a good feeling about you- you'll be blessed!

Hi yes that's true Doctors obviously do different things mine is an OB/GYN too I guess we've all heard their the best but will only see for ourselves as everyone's situation and outcome is different; i'm not REALLY worried yet to increase my dose to 100 but may consider it an option if/when get to 3rd/4th cycle.  I did quite a bit of reading another disadvantage of high doses of Clomid was it decreases vaginal fluids so sperm MAY NOT travel easier to the egg to fertilise?? BTW got my Clearblue OVKT but no OV signs yet (DH & I still BD yesterday lol) some people dont OV at all I hope mine shows up something at least by the weekend (as they predict 5-10 days after Clomid) Good luck & baby dust for us, fingers crossed.....

Hi, Thanks for your feedback your mother went through a lot in the past ttc sorry to hear she MC but then it worked out in the end, your brother was a Clomid baby from her first cycle then went on to have an unplanned pregnancy.  That really is a success story!! lol

I'm glad you posted this question. We've been trying over a year and everything checked out except I have low pregesterone. Therefore my OB wants to start me on clomid next cycle. I wouldn't be skeptical at all. I know how new adventures can be very overwhelming, but the doctors for the most part should advise you on what would be successful and help you get pregnant. I am a person that doesn't like to take medication (unless they're really needed) and I like to take the hollistic/natural approach. Unfortunately in this case, I can't so I'm putting aside my discomfort for the good of the cause. I do have a question for you... have you experienced any major side effects? This is one of the major reasons why I don't like taking meds because of how they effect my body. I hear clomid has bad side effects? Hopefully with the lower dosage that won't be the case. Good luck and baby dust your way.

I totally understand your reason for being skeptical.  Sometimes I have that feeling creep up into me too, but I'm trying super hard to be positive.  LOL.  And I know different doctors do things differently.  Not really sure why.  Sounds like you had tests and whatnot before hand and some women are having them during... I haven't had either.  My OB/GYN happens to be one of the best fertility specialists in my area (lucky for me, I guess) and when I went in for my annual back in Jan he just told me to call him if DH and I were actively trying still and not pregnant by March.  So I called and he just called my RX in... Not sure why he chose 100 mg or why I am not having any of those cehckups, but I'm sure everything is done for a reason.  If you are really worried about only being on 50 mg give your dr. a call.  I'm sure they will talk to you about their reasoning.  I have read (I've read ALOT... LOL) that sometimes going too high (which is different for everyone) can sometimes lower the chances of getting pregnant.  So I don't really know... but today will be day 3 of the pill for me -- I'll take it at lunch time -- and we'll be ready to try and make our sweet little baby.  :)

IMO, I say take the 50 mg this round and talk to your dr. in the next couple weeks and see what they say about possibly upping the dose or hear them out on why they want to keep you on 50 mg.  Good luck and keep me posted! :)

I have not used Clomid, but I just discovered that my youngest brother and the miscarried fetus my mother had years ago were Clomid babies. My mom and I talked about it recently, and I discovered that it took her nearly 4 years to conceive me (I'm the oldest), 2 for my first brother, and then she tried for 6 years to conceive naturally, but ended up on Clomid. She got pregnant after the first cycle. The baby miscarried at 3 months. She then tried 2 more years for my next brother, whom she eventually conceived after her first cycle of Clomid. My last sibling- my sister- was a surprise 2 years after his birth. So, I hear it works pretty well!

Thanks for your reply! Yes I shouldnt be skeptical there are success stories, but you are on 100mg I am thinking if I should ask Doc to up mine from 50 to 100 if it doesnt work after my 4th cycle.  I guess I will just hang in there, i'm off to get a OVPKT to track ovulation as we're starting  from today for 1wk lol keep you posted & best of luck to you, it would be awesome if we conceive first cycle!!

Don't be skeptical. Clomid is working if you ovulate. Obviously that sent way anyone wants to hear. We all want to hear that we are pregnant! But I was always told that Clomid is an ovulation medication and if you have ovulated, it as done its job. Obvious you can't get pregnant if you ont ovulate... And Clomid is supposed to make you ovulate multiple eggs (hopefully) which f course ups our chances. I just started my first cycle (I'm on day 2 -- CD 5-9 @ 100 mg) so I don't really have any words of wisdom.  Just hang in tree and I do know several women who've gotten pregnant by sing Clomid. Most during their third or fourth cycle, but one on her first. Maybe we will get to be that lucky girl(s)! Good luck!
