You should time your intercourse with your ovulation, about 10-15 days after the first day of your period.  OPK can help you figure out the best time to have sex.  If your periods are irregular, this may mean you don't ovulate.  You should talk to your obgyn since the problem can be corrected with drugs that can make you quite regular.  Good luck!!!!

Ovulation Predictor Kit (OPK) is very similar to a pregnancy test.  A positive OPK means you will ovulate within next 24-48 hours.  A box of OPK's contains about 7 test sticks.  You start testing around cycle day 8 until you get a positive.  Since your cycles are so long I am not sure how long that may take....  Again, you should do some blood tests to make sure you ovulate.
I hope this helps,  Helen

If you have irregular periods I would advise you to use an OPK. You will go thru too much money and more than likely not get pg. They are designed to work for the "normal" woman who's periods are every 28 days. I have very irregular periods and will go sometimes 6-9 months without AF. Ask your OBGYN about PCOS( polycystic ovarian syndrome). It wasnt until I went to a RE that I was diagonised with PCOS. The signs of PCOS according to my RE are: 1) irregular periods 2) unusual hair growth..especially on the face 3) cysts on your ovaries which is detected by an u/s.

Hope this helps!

When it comes to OPKs, they work very well when you have a normal cycle, but like the previous poster said, it can get very costly when you're irregular, because you have to keep testing for a veeery long time. I would suggest charting your temperatures every morning instead. That will tell you for sure whether or not you're ovulating! Plus it might help you see a pattern in your cycles, which will make it much easier to predict ovulation in the future. However, if temping does not show ovulation, I would go see a doctor and find out why you're not ovulating. Good luck!

Oh, and by the way, ovulation ususally happens about 14 days before your expected period.
