is a Shot always necessary

When you are using Clomid, do you always have to get a shot to "release" the eggs, or will your own body release it sometimes?

i use clomid and have had two children using it, ive never had a shot .

Many women will release the egg on their own without hcg trigger shot, but some women will develop mature follicles but not release them without the hcg trigger shot.  The chances of this increases with dosages over 100 or 150 mg. I can't remember which.  

I've used hcg trigger shot with and without clomid. I really like it because it takes a lot of the guess work out of properly timing IUI or intercourse.  With the trigger shot you should be monitored with ultrasound so that is a draw back if you aren't already doing so.

Most women get the trigger shot for better timing.  Alternatively, you may OPK to detect LH surge and time your bd or IUI 24-36 hours after the first LH surge is detected.  This is the protocol that my clinic uses.  Also, some women get naturally high levels of LH and cannot use OPK in which case you do need u/s & a trigger.  
Like Tanker Chic said, the trigger eliminates all the guesswork.
