iui

Hi all,

I'm new to this.  This is my second time of iui ( no clomid or any other meds), 11 dpo but i didn't feel anything except feeling my period is on its way soon.  2nd time the dr gave me hcg trigger shot and iui followed 18 hours later.  was it too soon?  It should be 24-36 hrs later, right?  Does anyone experience nausea after hcg shot?  I had 2 home pregnancy tests and both negative on day 10dpo and 11dpo.  I live in a small country town and  to have blood test i have to travel to 1.5hrs, has to be available at clinic from day 11th onwards (  clinic about 3.5hrs).  I'm tiring and wonder how long is my journey?  I believe that thing happens for a reason, so, what is God trying to tell me in the meantime?

How are you going?  gaining more weight? Does the baby starting kicking yet?  Did you get any maternity clothes back in UK?

I started my ICSI cycle.  Egg retrieval will be this Wed.  But unfortunately, i have only 4 follicles.  I got no idea why my ovaries didn't respond to the drugs.

I'll keep you posted.  Look after yourself.

I'm 7dpo and had been too busy to keep you posted ( eventhough i'm taking  2 reduced hour weeks.  Unfortunately, last Mon, i had computer crashed at work and it's my responsibility so you would imagine my adrenaline pumping up high.......

So how are you doing?  Is the baby kicking yet?????  How many kilos are you putting on?

This time i'm less irritated and anxious than in the past.  I kind of used to the 2ww and place my faith in God.  If He thinks it's good for me and i'm capable of being a single Mum then it will happen.  There is nothing i can do any more.

see you

A holiday in vietnam sounds great though :)
I am good was 14 weeks yesterday so things are getting a bit tight. Need some maternity clothes soon so when I go back to the UK in end of May I can buy some (they are better than the selection here)
I think next time you need to focus on the drugs. don't worry too much about working take that day off and just go back to normal - unless your really tired and have a physical demanding job it will be ok - you just need to take it easy and don't letyourself get too tired and go to bed early.  Then if you are tired off course reduce your hours but I think that is a secondary consideration. You need to up the anty on the drugs so you increase your chances of this working and creating more follies. What did you take last time?

Hi Tivey
How are you going? Putting on weight? and getting more tired ?

Thanks for your advise.
I changed my mind about doing IUI in Vn.  I had this crazy idea when i was upset about my AF was coming and wanting a changed scenario.  But after i read your post and put on a thinking hat and decided not to do so.  Instead, i will take time off during my 2ww or reduced hours ( 4 hours/ day) and see if i 'll have a better outcome.

Hi I don't understand are you saying go to Vietnam and have IUI there? - what are the medical facilities like there?  I think flying is ok so early but I would avoid it personally but that's just me. I hear of people flying all the time and no issues.
It sounds like a good idea maybe have your IUI before you go and then go and chill out there. So many people get pregnant on holiday so it obviously helps.
Me I am good going for a expectant mothers massage today so looking forward to that. I haven't bought anything yet I kinda of think its too early but I will do soon. I lost 2 kilos recently but I had put on 4 kilos in the first 3 months (eating too much bread and potatoes) so I put a stop to that and eat fibre crackers and I think that is why I lost weight. I started back in the gym this week so that should help. But I am taking it easy too, In fact going back ot bed for a hour now!

Let me know about Vietnam - it sounds like a great idea but I am not too sure about the facilities there.....

I spotted this morning( frid).  I'm glad in the way that if i have AF on the weekend, then i have to take only 2 days off for the next IUI.  If i live in the city i can just sneak out to drs however having day off means at least i can rest during IUI, so i shouldn't complain huh?

Tivey, what do you think if i have IUI in Vietnam for 1 month ( combine holiday and IUI? SD will be holidaying in VN too) Will the flying affect implantation?  The thing i'm worry about is lifting up luggage because customs at Syd terminal are very strict, they check and scan thorougly before letting you re-enter the country.  I'm not sure i should or not On one hand i thought if i relax in a resort for a few days before IUI could benefit but the heck of flying 8 hrs for 7 days trip, does it worth?

how much do you put on weight?  Have you start doing baby shopping yet?

have a nice weekend

Hey glad to hear your optimisitic - that is really good.
Taking days off will be less stressfull for you. I remember having to sneak out to doc appointments, scans etc it cna be quite stressful. The day I had my IUI I took the day off (actually worked from home) but was back at work the next day.
Very exciting so you going this cycle again?

Thanks for sharing your story tivey.  You'd gone through alot for something could be " normal" for some.  In my town, there are young girls ( from 16 yrs to 22) they have kids just like chooks lay eggs!!!!!  And with the security system in Australia, single mum allowance seems to be the attraction for them.  Yesterday i talked to a 25 yrs old lady, she have 6 kids from 3 different partners.  I plan to work part time if i have a baby and my friend's mum will help me out ( she's in her late 50's , retired and have no grandkids to look after).  Well, i need to get pregnant first, right????

How are you today? Do you get alot of morning sickness?  Take care and think of you

Tivey :

AF is coming and i'm looking forward for the next cycle ( isn't it good when you feel optimistic, right?)  I'm organizing times off for IUI and less working hrs during implantation but unless my AF comes i can't do anything.  Too many explained times off make my life more difficult at work as i'm nomally quite fit.

Hi addis09:
Welcome It's a great website you will get lots of good advise here.
I must admit I intially agreed with Chuotcon but I think I agree more with your OB and this is because of your age. Saying that there is no harm in doing one IUI - you never know it can work - it did for me. I was planning 2 IUI then IVF. The reason I was being agressive is time and even though I am younger than you - its time the treatment takes that adds up and all of sudden your another year older.  Also you need down time between treatments so a couple of IUI can take 3/4 months esp if you are on strong drugs. I don't think you need space in between if your using low dosage. Also if you do IVF and remember first try success isn't that high you have to wait for 2 cycles before you can try again.

So all in all I would try one IUI with injectionables and then straight to IVF.

To give me my story in brief I starting trying when I was 34 and just married. I tried for a year and nothing, went to the doctor and we both got tested. That took 2 months. Doc said your 35 go away and try for 3 months and come back if nothing. I got pregnant and lost it at 8 weeks. It then took me close to another year to get pregnant - I did 6 months of clomid and I look back and think what was I thinking I was going on 37 then.

In January of this year and the prospect of another year I went to the doctor and
practically demanded IUI and told him I was going for IVF in March if it didn't work. I was full of new years resolution determination!  It worked first time but my point is it took me nearly 3 yrs to get there..and there is apparently nothing wrong with either of us (although my husband had a bad sperm count for a couple of months)

The expense is crazy for IVF well the first one is because of retrival but the second IVF is like IUI cause they use the frozen eggs they take the first time and just put them in.
Third time might be expensive again cause you may have no eggs left and you have to do retrivial again.

IUI is a lot cheaper (about a 1/3 of the price) but that also depends on the drugs. If your using injections then they  become pricey but if your on something like clomid then then it cheap.

Actually the more I write to you the more I think go straight to IVF because you might be trying that for a year if it takes 3 trys which sadly a lot of women need. But there is no reason to say it won't work first time either.

If you do decide IUI make sure you go for strong drugs.  Good luck whatever you decide I am sure you it will happen for you.

take care

Chuotcon:

I am not going to find out which is hard for me becuase I am such a planner but I promised my husband who thinks there are too little surprises in life so we will take what we get! :)
I only have to worry about my expanding waistline now which is not much to worry about.

Your Dr is really right it will happen for you I am sure but I would say if you are going to do IUI 6-8 times then you need to vary the drugs, vary the methods etc because your body gets used to the drugs so quickly. The last few up the dosage big time.

Unfortunately stress effects us in all sorts of way and I am definitley prone to it. All I can say is both times I got pregnant I wasn't the least bit stressed or I was refusing to let stress get to me. During my 2 WW I just took my time at everything but I do remember being v irritable at work.
Its hard to tell I mean people get pregnant in the most stressful situations too but all in all I think its not good to be stressed during your 2 WW.

But I don't think you need to wrap yourself in cotton wool either just keep your mind in check and take twice the time to do anything (unnoticied off course esp at work!)

see ya

Hi addis09: how long have you been trying?  Are there any other problems apart from age factor?

The reason i choose IUI because it less expensive and less medications involved ( only hcg trigger shot) but in 6 months time if my tummy still flat then i'll do IVF because the sucessful rate of IUI is much less than IVF ( 40-50% cf to 10-20%).

Hi,
I am a new comer and was just following your posts. Best of luck to you Chuotcon. I had a question should you do IUI before IVF. I am 40 and my OB suggested the best is go IVF. I am scheduled for laproscopy next week to remove a Fib on the lining and clip one follibian tube. So after that I can do IVF. But it is pretty expensive I really want to be a  mom. So should do IUI first as it is cheaper it seems.

Thanks for the advice.

Hi tivey,

Good to hear good news from you.  You can enjoy the rest of 6 months and the excitement when the baby due.  Do you want to know the gender?

I was discussing with my Dr and we came to term that after 6-8 months if i still don't get preg then IVF is the next option.
I asked my Dr last time why an't i fell preg since i'm very regular 28 days, no other problem ( as far as i know), healthy, don't drink, don't smoke and not over weight. But he told my the successful rate of IUI is upto 20% so he told me "hang in there and it will happen".  I also asked him about the quality of sperm, 2MU/0.1ml ====>that's ok

Last time, during implantation, i was very busy ( we had 4 days off as Easter public holidays in Australia and also i had 3 days off prior to it) so i was stress and on the move from 7dpo till 12dpo.  In your opnion, that's not good for implantation right?  This time, i will take days off or reduce hours from 7dpo -12 dpo.  What do you think?

That's all i can do, the rest let's God decides.

Thanks for your support and caring

Hi my results came back normal so thank god I can relax!

I am sorry to hear you think your coming on - that is very frustrating I am sure especially as you seem to be doing everything you can be doing.
Have you thought how many IUI's will you do before moving on to IVF? Also if you do come on then have you had any feedback from the doc as to why they think its not working? Cause from memory you don't have any problems right? I mean structural ones etc.
Anyway you could still be pregnant so hang in there. you never know. I thought I was going to murder most people in any given day at work in my early weeks so you never know!

take care and fingers crossed :)

Happy to hear from you.
I've been having AF symptoms, no boobs sore but cramps.  Yesterday, i tested and it was negative so i'm waiting for AF to come and getting myself ready for my 4th IUI ( mentally and organize days off ).  A few days ago i was very moody and irritated, but i'm more calm now and face things better.

I know that once got pregnant, that is not the end but the journey just starting for more worries and feeling out of control.  I'll pray for you and wishing you all the best.

Take care and don't worry too much.

hi hi sorry have not been on line. Happy belated easter to you.  Yes they have easter here but I am gone off chocolate since I became pregnant so I didn't have any (can you believe that!) All sounds good. The egg size is ok. I think mine wasn't much bigger.
I am sure you will be fine - just take it easy and get plenty of rest in the evenings.
How many days are you now? You must be near testing. All I can say is best of luck and don't worry if you feel like you are coming on I did every minute and then I tested positive.
fingers crossed for you - you deserve it.
PS By the way it doesn't get any easier when you are pregant. I have to have tests done for abnormalities now that I am 12 weeks and really worried but we decided whatever they show we will accept it and have the baby no matter what.
