letrozole(femara)

Hello, have been speaking with my dr regarding my struggle to have a baby after 3 failed ivf's, I am 41 yrs and do no ovulate, before ivf was on clomid and after 3 rounds it gave me a cyst so my dr is reluctant to put me back on this medicine. Have asked before but want to hear of any positive stories using letrozole(femara) to help with ovulation, this drug is primarily a drug used to help with breast cancer and is still in research stage for fertility problems, my dr is talking with other gp's because is not happy to prescribe it to me. I however don't mind being a guinea pig, I have nothing to lose and if anyone knows of good outcomes please tell me, I will print this off and take to my dr, many thanks melissax

I have not got pregnant yet had had a good lining which doubled in thickness and it develops one foli and a good size one. I only take it from day 3 for 5 days. There is loads of woman who are pregnant on it. Good luck

I have a success story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was on letrozole for 4 months. The first 3 months were given by my OB. 50mg, 100mg and 150mg. She then referred me to a RE.  He tried me on one more round of clomid 150mg to no avail.  I had an HSG done and all tubes were clear.  I was then put on letrozole (femara) days 3-7. Went in on day 14 for an u/s and had a follicle measuring 17.5mm.   Did OPK for a few days and got my +. Went in the following day and had IUI.
I am now 12.5 weeks pg with TWINS!
Letrozole is a drug for breast cancer and is not FDA approved for infertility.  If you are still seeing your OB and not a RE, that could be the reason for concern writing you a RX for it.  When I went back to my OB to begin my prenatal care, she asked how I ended up getting pg.  When I told her about letrozole, she said she never heard of it. So....keep your head up.  It can and it does work!!!  Best of luck to you

Hi Melissa,

I just wanted to let you know that I am on another forum for asherman's syndrome, and alot of ladies on there use fermara instead of clomid because clomid can thin the uterine lining.  They all say that fermara helps with the lining and several have had success using it.
Good LUck!!  I am thinking of you and praying you get your BFP soon!!!!

xoxo
