metformin

So I was just put on metformin for an insulin resistance issue which is causing infertility.  DH and I have been TTC for 2 years...ever since a m/c in 2005.  I am not sure what the metformin is actually going to do..my doctor predicted pregnancy in as early as 3 months...but I still don't understand what this medication is actually going to do or how soon it will do it...someone else on this med help?

I am also on Metformin for high insulin levels.  Do you know what your level was I guess the good is a 10 and mine was 74.  They haven't diagnosed me with anything actually just giving me the metforming to bring down the insulin and I am also taking Clomid b/c I have ttc for 14 months.  I went to a different Dr. while mine was gone on vaca and she told me that the insulin was probably what was causing the problems and that once it was regulated with the metformin I should be pregnant in 3 months or less.  She has had good luck with people getting pregnant the first cycle.  Right now I am still waiting a while b4 I can take a test but hoping..  My bbt chart is showing like I ovulated 2 times and my cervix is soft like I ovulated 2 times also so now completely sure...  Just hoping to get pregnant....  good luck to you.

So, you may have PCOS with insulin resistance?    I have it too and so does my sister.  They don't know which comes first the wacky hormones and then insulin resistance or insulin resistance and then the wacky hormones.  In any case having too much insulin floating around will stimulate your ovaries to produce too much male hormone in turn will prevent you from ovulating regularly.  So, the metformin will in essance make the insulin work where it is supposed to be working and hopefully return your hormone levels to normal.  I am in my second month of being on metformin and I can already see a difference... skin, hair, mood etc..
