The first part of the procedure were awful. The first sonographer couldn't find the baby- it was really obvious she thought somthing was wrong. She only scanned for what felt like a few seconds, tho Ian said it was a couple of minutes and then she asked if I'd had any bleeding or pain, by which time I was crying
uncontrollably imagining I'd got to have another D&C and wait all that time all over again.
Ian looked really upset and my 2 and a half year old daughter Eden was asking "why is mummy crying
?"
Then she got another scan lady in for a second opinion and she scanned on the other side quite low and found it straight away.
I must admit when she was showing me the haertbeat all the excitement I thought I'd feel wasn't there, I just couldn't get my head
around it really.
You could tell the second lady was a bit annoyed with the first and Ian was fuming. She apologised and used the "it must have moved" excuse but we all know how big my uterus is and it shouldn't really be that hard to find. I think I was in shock
because it took ages to register there actually was a baby in there and I cried again last night event hough I know everything looked ok in the end.
Anyway, I was 8 weeks and 6 days which is a few days less than I thought, but about right. They didn't give me the date I'm due either- I have to go back for another scan in 4 weeks :) apparently it's hospital protocol that the dating scan has to be done at OVER 9 weeks gestation - so had I had the scan today at 9 weeks exactly I'd have only got 2 scans but now I'll get 3! It will be a better picture too as it was a really funny looking yesterday! Crown rump length was 21mm :D and it's got a huge head
