Hi,
I just turned 38 and we have been ttc almost two years as well no luck...
we went to a fertility clinic  and have been doing all the investigative testing...mostly on me...men have it easy they just do a sperm count/mobility test. my other half has low mobility.  i am still in the testing stage...they want to do a saline sono to see if i have any polyps or cysts in my  uterus...my dr keeps suggesting a laproscopy but i'm not convinced i want to do this. he also of course said to do the ivf if we can afford to...considering our age we don't have time...i am becoming depressed about the whole thing...it's not an easy journey. working 10 hour days and commuting another 2 and then dealing with a hubby...we really want a child but it looks like it's going to be a lengthy journey.
is this your first as well?

Melissa

Hi there!  Yes, I'm about to turn 37 ;( and have been ttc for 2+ years.  It's a long, emotional journey, but hopefully we'll all be blessed in the end ;)  I found out through an HSG that my uterus is a t-shape, which means it's small and misshapen, making it a risk to carry multiples.  So, my RE has been pretty limited with what he can do to help. The lining of my uterus is also very thin, which makes it difficult for an embryo to attach.  I got my first ever BFP on April 16 & m/c'd on April 28.  As difficult as it was to go through, we tried to focus on the positives, like we actually did get pregnant!  That was huge ;)  Fertility meds can thicken the uterine lining, but can also increase the risk for multiples & in my case, the risk to my babies if I carry multiples is so great, that my RE has told us we will have to agree to reduce, which I don't think I can do...  So we've finally decided to move forward with IVF!  That way, the fertility meds will hopefully thicken my lining a bit, we'll have lots of healthy eggs, retrieve them & then transfer one embryo back.  Well, that's my story in a nutshell!  What is your story?  Best wishes =)

I am 39 and ttc my third child starting this month! I got pregnant easily at 31, then at 38 it was a lot harder for me. We ttc naturally for 8 months and decided we better go to the doctor. I took Femara for 4 months and it didn't work. Went to see a fertility specialist who doubled my dose of Femara, wached my follicles via ultrasound and then took a trigger show, this worked the first time! My 2 sons are 7 and 7 months now. I would prefer to wait until my youngest is 1 before ttc, but my age is a huge factor to me now.
Hopefully we will get lucky soon with our method that worked last time ;-)

Turtle - do you have any other children or been pregnant before?  Age does play a part - fertility drops off at certain points of age but if you're in your late 30's, chances are you'll do well

I waited until I was 43 before I got serious about trying to get pregnant.  Since I had children from a previous marriage & a tubal ligation, I had to go straight to IVF since I was too old for a reversal.  I did one cycle of IVF and it got cancelled due to lack of ovarian stimulation largely due to my older eggs.

I ended up doing a donor cycle and got pregnant right away - we delivered a healthy baby boy last April '08 - light of my life.

I'm not saying you'll have to go through all of this - if you don't get pregnant within 6 months, consult your doctor - better yet, if you can, go straight to a reproductive endocrinologist (a fertility specialist).  He/she will point you in the right direction - good luck!

Oh and check out the pregnancy 35+ forum - there are many, many women over there who've gotten pregnant via au naturale & through ART.  Really it doesn't matter since the end result is the same - smile...- jen
