ovualtion but no period and not pregnant?

I've posted before on this forum asking if I should be concerned that after nearly 3 months I hadn't started my period after I'd suffered a miscarriage and consequently a D&C in December 2006. I was advised that I should speak to my GP about having some tests done. Well I went to my doctor and have had blood tests, an internal examination and a scan, none of these tests identified any problems and my GP said that from my blood tests he felt that I had definetly ovulated this month (progesterone level 49)and my scan showed my endetrium was 7mm . I used an ovualtion test kit at home on the 1st March 07 which came out positive but despite my GP saying he also believes I've ovualted this month I still haven't had a period. My GP said you can ovulate but not have a period even if youre not pregnant (which I definately aren't)- I've not heard of this before what do you think? Why wouldn't I start my period if I had ovulated? My husband and I are desperate to start trying again for a baby and we feel that we can't move forward with all this-would it be safe to try for a baby without having a period after a miscarriage?

My GP is insisting that its anxiety thats stopping my period (I've started getting heart palpations to top everything off!!). I am anxious but I thought that if you ovualte and youre not pregnant you would have a period.

Thanks for your time.

Kerry

I think things can be out of whack for a while after mc & d&c. I have read that you can o and still skip a period. I've never had it happen but I guess it's more common than we think.

After my m/c and D&C on 27th September, I had my first AF on 1st Jan (14 weeks later) my doctors didn't run any tests so I have no idea but I did pick up 2 LH surges with OPK's in this time. I read on another site that you can surge but not actually release an egg (due to stress or other factors-can't remember!)  so maybe that's what's happened with you.

I know it feelshorrible not knowing what your body is doing. :(

Have you spoken to your doctor again? Perhaps they can tell you more.

Hugs, Ruth xx

i dont want to get your hopes up, but the same thing happined to me, and i got pregnant sometime after the first ovulation, i ovulated that month, didnt get pregnant, didnt have a period, and then got me bfp about the time when my next af was due, i had no signs of ovulation either, (maybe because i wasnt looking for any bc i was awaiting af)

I think things get out of whack for a while too.  In fact I m/c in dec too and ever since my menses has been little to none.  One time I spotted for 5 days , and it JUST showed up on the toilet paper each time.   I wore a panty liner just in case, but never anything on the panty liner.  Then afterwards the flow has just lasted barely 2 to 3 days.   It's been pretty light and late to top things off!

So my point is maybe, it just very light with yours or there not enough of the endometrium to be shedding yet.    With the m/c I had in dec, I never had soo much blood in my entire life.  I think there might have not been anything inside the uterus for awhile.  Who knows..

Did you have regular cycles before?

Sorry this may not be that helpful, but you're doc could be right!   I know this is so frustrating.

You're right though, theorhetically speaking you should get your period after you ovulate.
