ovulation miscounts

growing up we learn in school that ovulation takes place once a month midway between periods in a perfect world. my periods are some what regular and can most months feel when i ovulate. since feb. 2011 i have noticed subtle changes. i am 31 single and not a sexually active vegan. i also travel internationally very frequently and have never had "problems" / symptoms as these before. well... once back in 2004/2005 i was supposed to go to hondruas. i didn't want to have to deal with my period in a developing country where running water was limited. prayerfully my period came just a little early so that when i arrived didn't really have to deal with it. well before the end of my stay out of no where i got my period 2 weeks later. then even after my arrival back home to WA i started for 2-3 months having my period every 2 weeks! =S never has this happened again, but will never forget and i do not want it to happen again!

in february whilst at a friends house in london i started my period it was very mucosy and bright red at the beginning donned my favorite femine products and nothing more for two days. =S this was very confusing because i don't believe i have never really had spotting before. then my official period then started two days later with the whole cramp thing as usual. though the pain was intense at least i didn't throw up this time. which can be a norm for me.

since then i have noticed my periods have been slowly getting extremely mucosy. this usually is not the case. while in norway in march/april i noticed a strong pain located more medial/central where uterus is located. not a strong pain usually where the ovulation pain shows up. this medial pain has actually been occuring for a few months but was really pronounced in march/april. it is a very sharp instant pain and then goes away like it was never there. lasting only seconds.

this month i am back in CA i started a whole week early. and have been terribly mucosy betwixt periods. just finished 3 days ago but even before i finished had much mucous and then in the last 3 days a plethora of it has showed up out of now where. i have never had problems wiping when ovulating with too much mucous like i did earlier today, then tonight i am ovulating only 3-4 days after the last day of my menstruation. the mucous has no sign or smell of infection.

I have even in this past year wondered if have been ovulating twice a month some months. the scary part about it is if i were to get married and then this could really get interesting especially if pregnancy isn't on the program.

how to know for sure i am ovulating twice a month? i haven't been consistent with temperature but believe the other SHOW signs are present.

is this common?

what causes double ovulation? how to stop it?

is it a harbinger of some disease later on in life?

i dont know much on this sorry but i think there is a pill you can get to stop ovulation resulting in regular periods. i would suggest speaking to your doctor. i had regular 28 day periods then one day it started at 3 weeks + 3 days and it stayed like that until i got pregnant. after pregnancy i got the implant, then after i got it out i fell pregnant again so i cant say iv done anything to regulate my periods as i have not had a chance but good luck with it, i hope you get sorted
