hello,
Tomsbaby,
i was dx with PCOS in nov.06 i was giving met. and its done miracles..it brought my periods back to normal me and my dh were ttc but it wasent happening i responded good to met. but it wasent helping me ovulating so i went to see an RE who put me on clomid..after 4 cycles with clomid and one failed IUI i found out i had high prolactin levels and was put on another medication along with what i was taking..anywas that helped too and i did one cycle of injections and one IUI and BAM! got preg. first try...so dont think just beacuse you have PCOS you cant get preg. or u cant have kids...women with PCOS just have a harder time and u must be patient your doc. is going to put you tru a series of test and try fertility meds before doing anything major like injections or IVF so i would suggest to go see an RE if ur not already they specialize more in PCOS and ttc, also if you are overweight met. should help you lose some of the weight and maybe you might even want to try the insulin resistant diet losing maybe 10% of your weight it helps to restore your periods and ovulation, ive lose like 30 lbs not with met. and i luv it! im 5 weeks preg. and currently checking my hcg levels every 4 days so far so good wish me luck!

Baby248- i have taken provera before 5 pills for 5 days i have also tried promitrium  but that was to jump start my period i havent taken it to cure PCOS..did your doc. describe this for you for that reason?

I have PCOS and was given metformin. It did nothing for me, but make me nauseated. HOWEVER, after blood with they said I was not insulin resistent. (Alot of people with PCOS are) I think whether or not it will work for you probably depends on whether or not you are insulin resistent.

baby248 - i just finished a round (10 days of Provera) and I am bleeding VERY heavily. I just got home from the ER and having my hemoglobin and such checked. Hope you get better results. A Mirena IUD has also been suggested to me, but we are TTC. Best wishes!!

I have PCOS since I was 21 years old (now 32) this nothings to worry about if you follow your dr. As you must know PCOS its when you have irregular cycles or non because Amenorrea. oligorrea etc. that means that when you're not having your period those eggs stick on your ovary, that's why you have to take birth control pill (if you dont want to get pregnant), that's the only way you're ovary wont suffer to much. The metfformin is because must of the womens with PCOS can be resistant to the insuline and the Metf. help you on that (I'm taking matf. 850 twice a day during the last 2 yeras) and it help me. Now i did my first IUI and it work, the pregnancy test was positive but i'm quiet worry about my hcg cuz is low but rising wich is good sing.
Dont worry just take your pills and your dr. should tell you you will need some help to conceive, as i was told (some women dont need but we do must of the times)
Sorry about my spell (i dont know to much english), i hope this help you to understand more your sickness.

Good luck

hi,

I was diagnosed of the same thing but, I am ttc.
My Doctor told me there has never been any pills or medications for PCOS,
it affects the endocrine and the heart  but not on everyone.
I'm not worried about it because my God is able.
Try the pills and lets see what God will do.
Do you believe in God?
If you do, then, keep praying.

Take care.
