post methotrexate pain, anyone?

As you all know, I have had a left tubal pregnancy in October of this year. My last ultrasound on December 11th showed that the mass has been decreasing in size (from 8.1 down to 2.8/2.9 cms)I am still experiencing discomfort in my left side (same spot) that increases to sharp pain that lasts a few minutes, then resides to dull discomfort. I have been put on birthcontrol for 3 months, and there is not a chance I could have conceived (refraining from sex). What is this pain? Has anyone else experienced this before? I have posted on Ectopic Pregnancy Forum (www.ectopicpregnancyfoundation.org) hoping for an answer. Please help.

I just had medical tx for my EP. Fortuneately for me, my hcg levels were abnormally low and he elected to keep me oh of the OR. The OB said to expect the pain to be worse on the 5-7 day.  I've been passing huge red clots for a couple days with some mild cramping. It's my first pregnancy and I had no history of 'contributing factors'. I suppose I'm just the 'lucky' 1%. I'll be back on birth control for 2 months so everything will hopefully regulate. I've only been off the pill for about 2 months and we weren't really 'trying' when I conceived. I'm pretty optimistic about the next time. Best of luck to you all!!!  <3

Shay, Can you update me with that happened with you after you took methotrexate. I also have ectopic in my right tube close to the ovary. I'm also about 7 weeks and my HCG was 6300 two days back. The docs gave me the shot 2 days back and I still don't have any pain.

Im like so scared here. I have been reading everyone's post. Now, im siiting here waiting for the pain to start. I turned 7wks today and a hcg 4089. I got my tubes coagulated(burned) a year ago, and now Im pregnant. Transvaginal showed that I was pregnat(ectopic) in my Left tube adjacent to the left ovary.

Anyway, I received the shot(methotrexate) today. Im feeling fine. Other then the pain of loosing my baby. That I came to accept even after my tubal. I see some of you guys pains started around 2-11 days after the injection.

Im wondering why didnt the Dr give me a script for pain meds. Im sure they have heard of many people's pains after administering this drug. Its friday night now, but Monday morning im sure going to call in for prescription to have on stand by. I DO NOT WANT TO EXPERIENCE THE PAINS THAT IM READING. dealing with pains after the birth of a healthy baby is different, but this a NO NO. I wish everyone the best, and thanks a lot for heads up.

The doctor wants me to wait at least 3 months before conceiving because I had two shots, and to refrain from sex for at least a full cycle. He gave me birthcontrol pills in the meantime to prevent pregnancy and to regulate my cycle (seems to be stopping the blood). I am also scheduled for an HSG test end of January which will hopefully show something in regards to my tubal issues.

As for the previous poster, yes, I have had laparscopic surgery done with my first tubal, and omg!!! never thought I could ever get that bloated. luckily I didn't have to endure that surgery as of late.  I just can not seem to stop passing wind, and still have cramps onmy left sided, maybe they could phantom pains, unsure. As long as I am not bleeding or hemorraging, I guess I am fine, according to the obgyn.

Keep in mind, there's different gas pains then the "traditional" kind. Have you ever had surgery where they fill your abdominal cavity with gas? You can't expel that with flatulence- it will gradually release from your body through the epidermis.

That's the kind of gas that I was referring to- not the kind that you blame on the cats. :)

I only congrats only because I know what you are going thru, did not try to sound rude or cynical, that is the only thing you can hope that works, besides surgery.

hey, just  me.....thank you for the congrats...I feel the same way.... I am really happy that it came out!!! (gross, huh) I keep passing clots still with grey tissue....what the heck is that???? I have still been taking codeine..but today I have not taken any yet..the bleeding is not as bad... I went to a homeopathic Dr. yesterday and had a whole body scan done trying to figure out why I cannot conceive.... My body is so out of whack....they found that I have massive allergies, gut issues, and pancreas issues... I am takinga ton of supplements...it should be intereting to see what is going to happen from here... I go back in 1 week to have levels checked again...I hope they are low!!!  By the sound of things, it seems to be working just fine..... When are they going to let you try again????

Hey Jacquie, I can honestly say congrats, as inappropriate as that sounds....and the ride is not fun. I unfortunately never experienced any clotting or such, but did pass a sac like substance 3 weeks into, and on December 2nd, passed an ET beansprout thing....still not sure of wtf it was.

As for late, it is just dull, pain on my left side, with moderate to hello I am here type pain every now and then. I do have gas, trust me, but thank goodness I have pets to blame it on (but I do not think people believe me because they are cats) but that is not the pain.

My hcg are down to a non pregnant state (0), and recently blacked out from the pain, but the docs at the ER passed it off as lack of food. (As I was not bleeding externally like a period).

Hey girl..... the metho. finally worked and OMG, I am in pain!!!
Of course it happened on Christmas day!!!  I am still in pain and lots of bleeding (there were clots the size of a golfball...( I know TMI)...anyway the only way I can control the pain is using codeine....I just started with the pain and my shot was two weeks ago....so I am not sure that I can help you with your question, but  I wish you luck and maybe you should call the Dr.???  Do you think the pain is from the metho. shot or the ectopic???  just a thought....take care and keep us updated....Jacquie

I do recall having intermittant abdominal pain following methotrexate. The only thing I could attribute it to was gas, which will occur anytime something is breaking down in our body.

Is your doctor checking your hcg level each week?
