question about clotting factor

Hey ladies, I have a question that maybe some of you could help me with.  My dr did some bloodwork after my 2nd blighted ovum in a row and he said that I may have a clotting factor.  He said my antithrombin antigen was a little high, my protein c antigen was also a little high and my homocystiene was slightly low.  This all meant nothing to me but was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on what a clotting factor affects and can you have a good outcome when trying to get pregnant again?  All my dr told me was if it's a problem then sometimes you can have m/c's because not enough blood gets to the uterus, and they can give baby asprin if you get preg again.  I still have to go see a hemotologist for more testing but just wanted to get some more info until I went.  Also for anyone out there who's had this prob were you able to get and stay pregnant.  Are there risks to your baby if your able to stay preg?   Sorry so long, thanks!

The pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage (10/06) was my first pregnancy and I had no idea that I had a clotting issue. According my "impression report" that came from the reporting lab, the result "low positive" was clinically insignificant unless there was a history of thrombotic activity or fetal loss. I never had severe clotting with my periods and don't know if that would be an indicator that one has the problem. Hope that helps.

thanks so much, that cleared up quite a bit for me.  My dr. didn't really explain a whole lot about it.  Does anyone know if it matters if I already have a dd and didn't have any of these problems before (at least that I know of).  Or can this appear at any time in your life?
Pertykitty-  my af's are usually pretty light and no clotting at all (except for a few months after my m/cs)  then they are heavier and clottier for a few months.  Have you had any testing done?

Hi, I miscarried @ 10wks (10/06) and had extensive testing done afterwards (testing of the fetal tissue, testing for antibodies and clotting issues).  I found out in January that I have the clotting issue. I am approximately 7 1/2 weeks pregnant again and to address the clotting issue, I give myself (2) injections a day of Lovenox (low-dose heparin) and take 1 baby aspirin. So far,  everything is going well. So, if you do get pregnant again-I know it is an issue that your doctor can address in some way or another and hopefully you will have a positive outcome!

Good Luck!

AN elevated clotting factor means your blood clots to easy there is decreased flow of blood, hence the baby aspirin which will thin the blood making the flow easier and clots less likely to form, hope this helps and hope everything works out for you,
