question about using a donor

I'm not there yet--we are getting ready to try ivf w/ my own eggs--but just in case, I have a question about donors.  I was told that they have to take psychological tests, IQ tests, etc--is this true? Also, how does one know if they have an autistic brother they didn't mention or a few relatives w/ schizophrenia or something? Is there any way to know for sure?
Thanks

I had a friend that donated for me.  Yes, she had to take the phyc test  But they were questions like....Do you like flowers, would you plant flowers, do you like to draw flowers.... are you shy, if you walked into a room and your friends were there would you say hi across the  room. Strange questions like that.... and there were like 500 of them!!!!  I think for the most part, people are honest on the questionares.  It takes special people to give up there eggs for a friend/ or stranger.... take comfort in that.

Hi,
I've never used a donor but read quite a lot about the process in all my IVF books. I guess in the end it is up to the donor to be honest about all the history, and also sometimes they might not even know all the facts themselves. I know that the legitimate agencies do A LOT of interviewing, testing etc. to ensure that all the facts are revealed. Plus, I believe there is an age limit to the donors to make sure her eggs are at their healthiest. I guess that's one of the reasons a lot of couples decide to ask a family member to be a donor. Bottom line is, there is no way to know EVERYTHING for sure, but the same goes for your own family history, doesn't it? Best wishes on your cycle; hopefully you won't have to go that way :)
