trigger shot and iui

trigger shot and iui

HI, I had my trigger shot on friday at 2 pm and then my insemination Sat moring at 10. Does anyone no if this is too soon? I've read that ovulation takes 36hrs after the trigger and washed sperm only lives 6-12 hrs so that would make the timimg all wrong.  I'm now on #3 iui and wondering if this is why it's not working.

ovulation is usually 24-36 hours after the trigger shot. When i have taken the trigger shot it would be at like 11:00pm and my IUI wouldn't be till 2 days later at around 12:00 but mine never work either,  but i know people on here that it has worked for

I am going in for my first IUI on Tuesday. I am doing my trigger shot on Sunday night at exactly 9:30pm and then going into the office on Tuesday at 9:30am. I've read that most have it done 36 hours after

Hello!  I am following the exact same schedule as Mareski - 930 pm sun for trigger and 930 am tues for iui.  My only concern is i think I have started to ovulate already.

How can you tell? Did you take an OPK? I wouldn't BD at all since you should wait at this point until the specimen retrieval. I do plan on doing a OPK test the morning of the IUI. That's exciting that we have the same cycle.

Hi,

I had trigger on Wednesday at 10:30 Am and IUI on Thursday at 10:30 am, exactly 24 hours later.  I was ovulating at the time they did the IUI, as seen on the ultrasound (fluid released), and was having ovulation pain.

We were advised to BD at 36 hours and 48 hours as well.  But I'm sure that was too late.

10 days to wait till I know if it was effective.

I strongly believe timing is why the vast majority of iuis do not end in pregnancy.  I know one person who had a successful iui (two, actually): her doctor gave her the hcg shot and did one iui 24 hours later; if she hadn't ovulated, he did another 24 hours after that and if she still had not ovulated he did a third. He always did an ultrasound before to see if she had ovulated.
I think that any doctor who does an iui w/out doing an ultrasound to confirm ovulation is not doing his or her job.
And there is nothing stopping us from ovulating before the trigger shot or immediately after receiving it.  If your body was going to ovulate at 3 pm on a Monday, it will ovulate then, even if you got your hcg shot at noon on Monday for the iui the following day (unless you are on an ovulation-inhibiting drug like lupron, which is not usually used for iui).
Not to sound cynical, but iuis are not where the money is for the doctors. I'm not saying they aren't trying, but if you notice, most do not publish their iui success rates on their websites--only their ivf success rates. So there is not too much motivation to go for a high iui success rate.

Mareski - Well I thought I was ovulating since I had some of the symptoms you usually look for but I took an opk Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon and neither one came back positive.  So unless I did on on Saturday (but I should have caught it on Fri or Sun if I did) I think the timing may be ok.  We were told to BD Fri and Sun before our IUI on Tues.  I will ask on Tues about BD after the IUI.   Good Luck to you!  And we have to keep each other updated on our progress!

nshapland - thanks for the info on the IUI and ultrasounds.  They didn't mention doing another one but I am def going to ask to get one when I go in Tues morning for my IUI.  I am only scheduled for 1 IUI and I noticed a lot of women are scheduled for back to back IUIs.

My second RE told me that she only does one iui b/c the "research" doesn't support doing more than one.  But she wasn't even going to do an ultrasound to make sure the timing was right until I insisted. I've since switched REs.
From what I understand, it's best if you haven't ovulated for the first iui but then they need to check to make sure you eventually ovulate and go from there.
They may also tell you that they "can't tell" if you've ovulated but my current RE says you can--there will be fluid from the ruptured follicles and the follicle looks misshapen (less symmetrical) than before ovulation.
Also, my husband and I always have intercourse from the day I get my hcg shot just to cover the bases, since unwashed sperm lives longer. It hasn't affected his sperm count on the days of the iuis--but then again, I've never gotten pregnant from an iui either : (
Good luck to you!

Thank you ladies for all your great responses its been really helpful. I'm convinced that they definitely have the timing all wrong and will discuss it on my next appointment.
Mareski and ck71 GOOD LUCK for today, hope we all get our BFP this month. Who knows maybe I'll be 3rd time lucky and we did follow our insemination with intercourse as recommended so that should increse our chance hopefully. Keep me posted ladies on how you get on, would luv to hear some success stories.
I also read on the internet that eating the pineapple core can help check out this website  amandabears.com/pineapple-core-for-implantation.html if your anything like me i'm pretty sure you'll try anything to boost yr chances.
Fingers crossed and good luck!!
