trouble with progesterone shots- Help!

Hi guys,
As some of you know I have done IVF twice. I am currently doing progesterone shots to do a biopsy on my uterine lining. My problem is I keep hitting a vein and drawing blood then having to restick.
Last night it took 6 tries before getting it right. Any suggestions? I'm just wondering how this is going to be when next try hopefully works, doing the shots for 6 wks.

I had great success with IVF! I'm almost 12 weeks (I stop injections in 4 days) and I'm so excited/nervous. I was lucky, pregnant with first IVF attempt. I did use donor egg and husband's sperm because I'm almost 45. Good luck and keep us updated.

My advice, go to your clinic and have the nurse give dh an inservice. It's probably angle.  My dh did great, with you twisting to jab yourself your prob moving needle and causing trauma hence bleeding.  relax side you're getting injection in by lifting foot up on other foot.  Fast and straight will help, he can do it if he puts his mind to it.  we've never hit blood.  it really should be painless if done properly.  p.s.  I'm a nurse too, does help a bit.Injecting yourself is too much for you!  Good Luck :)

Thanks you guys for your responses. We are all brave with what we go thru to have the blessing of a child. Just got back from seeing my RE and he said we are doing everything right and are in the right area. Said we just had a weird string of bad luck as you said ms320. Thats a great idea, going back and forth. This next cycle we will try that. Have all of you had success with IVF? and if so how many tries did it take?
Thanks again,

Oh, thought of something this morning, check your angle on insert, maybe you are going in at a bad angle?  And maybe mark where you are finding blood so you won't stick that spot again?

My mom after a few weeks had to locate a spot to give the shots by literally pushing in on my hips to find a location that didn't have a lump.  So, maybe do a little preliminary poking before the shot?  We also used the back and forth method... moving over a bit each time until you get to the outer edge of the shot area and then returning back to the other side.

You are rotating hips, right?

Just a few thoughts, although don't know if any of the suggestions will help.  It may just be a string of bad luck.  ouchie, is all I can say.  And I feel your pain.

A friend of mine also had to stick herself.  She went to her clinic and had the nurse draw two circles so she knew exactly where to aim.  Obviously, blood vessels are going to be present in and out of the circle.  I think you just had a string of bad luck.  The primary reason for using the upper quadrant of the buttocks, I believe, is to avoid hitting the sciatic nerve.

Ditto on the brave.  Have them double check where you are sticking.  And as Zoe said, it's just around the side, not too far back or down.. in the "meaty" area, if you have extra "meat"!  :)

I had to cool down the spot with a bag of ice, had hubby warm the syringe in his hand and had my mom give me the shot lying down.  Then hubby rubbed the area to spread it out.  I had more lumps than I knew what to do with by the end of my 40 nights.

Keep trying!!  And best wishes to ya.  Ouch!

My RE has us doing the shots in a very spcific place.. which is the upper quandrant of the back of yourhip. If you sit down, feel from your hip bone on your side, and follow it around to the back of your hip, just aroung the corner. We've been doing those IM shots for 4 weeks, and havn't hit a vein once. I don't know if it's where you are doing them or not. Ask them tomorrow if you should adjust the injection site. You are very brave for sticking yourself!

Well my husband is not comfortable sticking me so, I stick myself then he draws back on the plunger to check for blood and injects. I'm doing them in my buttocks. I didn't have this trouble the last 2 times. What do you think? I'm going in for the biopsy tomorrow and will ask my RE.
Thanks for responding.
