vitex question

vitex question

Just wondering why people take vitex after miscarriage and if you start it after you ovulate.(Trying to conceive) I took it for one day and the next started to bleed(spot) I am day 23 of my cycle but have cycles that are over 33 days.  This is so odd for me.  My progesterone levels are extremely low 1.2 being the highest out of three dif tests.  Any help would be great!! Thanx in advance.  (I miscarried in sept. and want to do all i can to prevent it from happening again )

If your highest progesterone numbers were 1.2 it either means that you didn't ovulate that month, or that you hadn't ovulated yet when the test was taken. Do you remember when in your cycle the test was taken and how long that cycle was?

If you're not ovulating, I've heard ovulex can help. Not sure how it relates to miscarriages, though...

Take care!

Thank you for the info my last cycle was 39 days long and the bt was taken on day 24 of that cycle.  The doctor is shying away from progesterone but wants to jump on the clomid.  I don't understand this when my levels are obviously so low.  I actually started vitex and the next day started spotting on day 23 of this cycle which is rare for me. Thanks again i'm soooo confused

Well, if your levels were checked on day 24, but you didn't get your period until day 40 (the day after the 39th day), then that means the progesterone test was probably done too early. Normally, women will have a luteal phase (the second part of the cycle) of 10-16 days, so even if yours is 16 days, the test was taken the day of ovulation, and your progesterone levels probably wouldn't have risen enough by then. If your luteal phase is less than 16 days, the test was actually done before ovulation when progesterone is supposed to be low. Ideally, the progesterone levels should be tested 7 days past ovulation.

However, if your doctor is certain you're not ovulating on your own, clomid will help with that. And once you ovulate, your progesterone should go up. From what I've read, vitex is supposed to work in a similar fashion, by regulating your cycles...but it's probably not as potent.

Hope that makes sense :-)

Yes- that makes sense.  I'm just still so afraid to misscarry again i don't want to do anything to encourage a pregnancy( with clomid) If my body can't carry it due to the progesterone problem.  I never understood the relationship between the clomid and progesterone.  Thank you that really helps.  all along i just thought the doc was  not understanding me!!!  I left out that he wanted to do the dye test too.  I'm just taking things slow for now. Thank you once again
