what are the chances for ivf?

Girls what are the chances that ivf works the very first time. Do you know anyone who got pregnant on their first try? I don't have insur. and i cannot afford more than one cycle on ivf, but i have heard that most of the time it doesn't work with the first try.

Have you consulted an RE which specialized in recurrent pregnancy loss?  There are many who are world renowned and give various treatments post transfer to increase your chances of having a successful pregnancy.  Just a thought.

I had success with my first IVF try.  I did mc at 8 1/2 weeks, twins, but I believe due to a medication problem.  Best of luck to you.

Well since the test are normal and we cover the basics the only thing to see is the egg. Husbands sperms is more than great so the egg remains the only issue. With IVF they can choose the best egg and transfer the healthy ones. With this last pregnancy the egg that got fertilized was not good since it was empty. Actually there were two sacs so two eggs got fertilized and none of them were good.So i want to do at least one shot of IVF so we can have a better idea of the egg quality. Like i said is that or i continue doing clomit+injectables until we have a good embryo. But how many times can i get pregnant and m/c? Every time is worse spiritually and physically. But for the moment i want to relax for a couple of months and maybe start again in june.

I totally understand. It is so expensive to begin with, and if PGD adds another $5-6000, that's a lot of money!!! Did you RE say anything about why IVF would be a better choice, since you do get pregnant with "just" clomid and injectibles? My RE didn't really say anything about that...but I'm guessing it's because they can choose and transfer only the healthiest/strongest blastocysts. But that's a total guess...

I have done all those tests and also after my second m/c chromosonal testing for me and my husband, antibodies for me and MTHFR. I got pregnant three times using 5 days clomit+3 days injectables and trigger shot when the follicles were grown.I din't do IUi only timed BD and it worked every time. So there is no other test to do. So either i do IVf or i continue doing the same method until i get a good embryo. But i cannot do more than one shot of IVF and with the price for the PGD it's more complicated.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you, Jenny. My RE wants me to move on to IVF too (or possibly injectibles and IUI). Last year, we had a SA (normal), HSG (normal) and all the hormone tests (normal). I've had two miscarriages - one missed miscarriage at 8 weeks and a spontaneous miscarriage at 6.5 weeks. Both times I got pregnant on my own. We also don't have any coverage, and I'm worried about spending all this money on IVF and if...IF...I get pregnant end up with another miscarriage. I asked my RE if I should have some more testing done, and she said wasn't necessary. So I'm going to another RE for a second opinion on April 15. If he agrees with my current RE, great...if not, I'd be happy to have some more testing done first.

Thanks girls, well i'm 27y old. With my first m/c  the baby stopped growing at 4-5 weeks. With the second the heart stopped at 7 1/2 weeks. And this time it was a blighted ovum. I have done evry test to see why i'm m/c. By my end and my husband every test is great except i'm annovulatory even though my cycles are regular.I couldn't test the baby cause i m/c on my own.I wanted to do it this time but since was a blighted ovum they said there was no baby tissue to test only maternal. My Re told me about the PGD but since i don't have insur. it costs 5000-6000 extra. And i really don't know what to do.

i dont know your situation but i hope this helps. i sorta just asked the same question and then found yours. im going to IVF next as well, i am 22yrs old with PCOS. my RE was kinda surprised that i am absolutely healthy, except for being a few lbs over weight which he thinks my PCOS is a huge cause. anyway, my eggs are from what they see, healthy and my uterus is all clear and healthy, my office only puts 2 embryos in, they said that My chances of one sticking was about 70% and both sticking 30-40% so depending on your fertility problem, and age, like the others were saying, you may have a great % rate. even 30% is awesome considering that the average healthy, fertile woman has a 10%.

Hope that helps!! GOOD LUCK   ....baby....dust....

ivf success rates depend on your age, embryo quality and reasons for infertility.  Probability of success does not increase with the number of cycles.  Note that ivf increases your chances of getting pregnant but does not affect m/c unless you do preimplantation genetic testing for trisomies that may lead to m/c.  Since ivf does not really solve the problem of m/c I am not sure why you want to pursue it.  Did they ever tested you to figure out what caused your devastating losses?

I hope you get another BFP really soon!

There is no data to suggest that IVF is more successful on the subsequent cycles.  Since the success rates are usually between 30-40% a subsequent cycle increases your chances of success.  Depending on your age and your diagnosis for infertility you always have the option of freezing embryos, which while costly, would give you options to do a frozen embryo transfer later for a lot less money if you don't get pregnant from your fresh cycle.

I got pregnant after the doctor almost had to cancel my cycle because of OHSS. He only transferred 1 embryo (usually they will transfer 2-3) and it worked. Unfortunately, I miscarried at 12 weeks (not due to the ivf).

My best friend got pregnant first try and now has a very active 2 year old boy!

I think it's usually about a 50% chance. I'm considering moving on to IVF at some point too, an we don't have fertility-related coverage either. I haven't heard anything about chances being less on the first try than any subsequent tries, though. I hope that's not the case.
