40 year old w/ TSH level of 3.53..will this cause problems in getting pregnant?

Hello,
I am a 40 year old divorced mother of 3 children, ages, 9,7,5. My 3 children were conceived very easily. I am in a serious relationship with a man who has no children and we have decided to try for a baby.  One issue is that he had a vasectomy 6 years ago. He is having it reversed next week.  We are already going to have an uphill battle with his previous vasectomy and my age. I recently had a physical and noticed my TSH level was 3.53 which was in the "normal" range, but i googled this and found that anything over 2 can cause fertility issues. We dont' need any more challenges than we are already going to face so do I need to see a fertility specialist or my OB/GYN about getting this level down?

Thank you

Hi!
If I were your OB, the first question I would ask you is whether or not your periods were normal.  I would also ask about symptoms of hypothyroidism.  If your cycles are normal, and you are not symptomatic, I would recommend leaving well enough alone.
Too many people are too eager to take thyroid medications, and that can cause problems down the road.  Your value is well within the normal range, so I would not create a problem where none exists.

Hopefully the vasectomy reversal works well, as you seem to have a very good fertility history, and are likely to have a good chance.  One thing I often recommend, especially to the more mature client, is accupuncture--it helps to increase the blood flow to the uterus and ovaries and keep them healthy.

Wish you good luck!
