Advice with Zoladex and future menopause and fertilty problems

by mishyg, Mar 17, 2007 12:00AM
hi

i am having zoladex soon to help treat my posisble endometriosis.
i am worried about having problems conceiving in the future but also my mother had a hysterectomy at 30 for part reasons i do not know but she had 5 children and i think she was menopausal.

th eonly reaosn i am slightly worried is that i am 28 and is there any chance menopause could run in the family at an early age and with the zoladex would it hamper my chances at conceiving later on.

thanks

michelle

Unlikely that menopause will 'run in the family'. The zoladex will not have any long term bad effects as long as it is used for the recommended period of time. Once you stop the zoladex, it may take a few weeks but your ovulation pattern will return to pre-zoladex. If anything, people have tried drugs like zoladex to prevent menopause caused by chemotherapy in women with cancer - it did not work, but it won't accelerate menopause.
