Am I pregnant or is it progesterone???

by jaggie, May 31, 2007 12:00AM
I recently went thru IVF. Had embryo transfer May 23rd. Two healthy blastocysts transfered (after genetic testing). Could the progesterone shots and vag inserts I am taking be giving me preg symptoms? I have very sore breasts at times (not nipples), tired at times and suddenly extra hungry. I go next week for the preg blood test although I really want to take a home preg test but doctor recommended I do not. I don't necessarily "feel" pregnant otherwise although discomfort sleeping on my sides at night as I feel "full" but could that be from shot too. Symptoms are not as strong as last 3 pregnancies that resulted in early miscarriage. Are my symptoms due to the progesterone or could I be pregnant?  The wait is killing me!!!!

The wait tortures everyone! If you have had a successful cycle, the blastocysts will have already implanted. Assuming your retrieval was May 18 (?), a blood beta-HCG tomorrow or Saturday will likely reflect whether or not you are pregnant. Any sooner and the problem is the HCG from your shot that you took prior to retrieval might still be in the blood. Pregnancy as a cause of your symptoms is unlikely; even if you are pregnant you are too early. The symptoms are from a comination of the fertility drugs you took, enlarged ovaries from the fertility drugs, progesterone, etc. The pregnancy test will tell all!

I am still taking the progesterone shots that is why I was wondering.. Also with the IVF process I am technically 4 weeks pregnant since they "helped" with the process.  I neverhad implantation bleeding either... SIGH.....

I just went through a round of superovulation & IUi using injectibles (gonal F).  I had my IUI on 5/30 & 5/31.  I too, have had a "full" feeling in my lower abdomen & groin area (especially on the side where my ovary had the mature follicles).  Today is the first day that I dont have that full feeling (7 days post IUI).  My boobs are hudge and soar - they have been since the day of the trigger shot.  I am sure these symptoms are from the meds.  My progesterone level was 65 today!  I had 5 mature follicles so I think that contributes to the level.  This 2ww is torture!!  I feel for ya!  Good Luck!!!

To: Progesterone Level
Hi. I am under IFV treatment, I don't live in US, so sorry for my English...
I'm taking progesterone shots. 0,5ml/day. Today I had a blood test, and my progesterone level is 50. Does it means I am pregnant? Or is this high level of progesterone caused only by the injection?
I tranfered 5 embryos 5 days ago (21st) egg retreved (18th).
Thanks :)
