Beta numbers rising but not doubling?

Beta numbers rising but not doubling?

My question is about Beta numbers that rise but do not double.
I had a miscarriage a year ago so we are being overly careful with this pregnancy.
As a result I had a quanative HCG ran on 20 dpo and then again on 22 dpo. They rose but did not double. My docotors office said it is fine and nothing at all to worry about. Yet everything I seem to read contradicts what my OB's office tells me.
On dpo 20 my beta was 806... 46 hours later on dpo22 it was 1275. Tha is a rise but obviously NOT double. The OB said once the numbers get that high they do not expect them to exactly double but to have a definate good rise. As such he claims all is well and there is nothing to worry about at all. I have a hard time not worrying when everything I read online says they should at LEAST double, possibly more. The ob says that is only meant true when your lvls are much lower, ie... 25 or 50 or even a few hundred at best.
I have no bad sypmtoms but that does not mean anything one way or the other. I have nausea, fatigue, my breats are sore and burn like heck and yesterday I started in with real bad heart burn.
I am not cramping, spotting etc...
I am obssessing with these darn beta numbers not being doubled or higher... any advice?
Thank you :)

Unfortunately, there is no way of predicting how your pregnancy will go, beyond following the beta levels and doing an ultrasound farther along in pregnancy. The idea of beta-HCG levels needing to double is a misperception. As a rule of thumb, 85% of normal pregnancies will have beta-HCGs that increase by 1 2/3 (67%) every two days. However 15% of normal pregnancies will have beta-HCG levels that increase at an even slower rate. Since your level increased by not quite 60%, it might not be a bad idea to repeat it, along with an ultrasound. I wish I could be more definitive - time will tell.

Hi,

I believe (and could be wrong) that doctors like to see the numbers rise 66% - the doubling thing is a myth.  However, I also believe that once you reach a certain level, they start leveling out and do not continue to rise at the pace that they rose early on.

Good luck,
Fay

I've been told that as long as they are close to doubling thats good.....doesn't have to be an exact double your #'s are rising so I'd say it's a good thing......good luck
