Blocked tube

I am almost 33yrs old, and had PID as a young adult, I have been pregnant 1 times in my life and it was an etopic pregnancy. I seeked fertility treatment in Jacksonville Florida. I under went 2 laposcopy and an histoph (how ever you say it) The doctor told me I have 1 blocked tube and the other one is open. He never said whether I ovulate on just one side or if I ovulate on both sides. Really he never showed much concern for my wanting to get pregnant. I tried Artifical insimination. I took injections everyday and ended up producing 6 eggs on each side. He then did the procedure and it did not work. That sucked the life out of me financially and emotionally, All I ever wanted was to be a mother and to make my mother a grandmother. I asked about tubial surgury and he said there was none. Now that I am almost out of time I find out there is a surgury that can be performed and was wondering if there was anything locally or a clinical study that I can volunteer for. Please if you can help me or know someone that can, I would owe you my life. This means so much to me and I just dont know where else to turn. I have Aetna insurance and dont know if anything is covered. Pls you are my last attempt

As the cause of your infertility seems to be your fallopian tubes, and you have failed to get pregnant after numerous tries of injections and IUI, the question is whether or not your chances to get pregnant are best by having surgery to try to repair your fallopian tubes, or by IVF. In most instances, the pregnancy chances every time you try IVF are much better than the chances after fallopian tube surgery. For example, if you are age 35 or younger, your chances of getting pregnant from an IVF cycle are probably > 40%. At age 40, chances are only 15%-20% every time you try. Chances every month after fallopain tube surgery are almost always < 10% or even < 5% each month. Thus, if money was not an issue, at your age, my bet is that IVF is by far your best option at this point, and you still have time; fertility chances do not really start to fall drastically until after age 35 most of the time.

Of all insurances, Aetna seems to cover more infertility treatments than many other insurances, but you would have to check with them regarding what they cover for you.

Are you seeing a board certified reproductive endocrinologist at an IVF center? If not, I would strongly recommend doing so. Most IVF programs will also be able to determine what is and is not covered by insurance.

Sorry to hear about your past experiences, but I do not think all is lost yet. Your age is in your favor still. Think IVF, and please see a board certified reproductive endocrinologist.

I also have a similar problem. I had gonerehea and scarred my tubes severly.....I am now a married responsible adult and wish for children. I do not know what is avilable to me and would like more information.. I have sex almost everyday for the last two years and have not been pregnant...i am loosing hope.

I also had a std at a young age scarred my tubes.Now I've been married for 8 yrs been preggo naturally once but was ectopic I ended up loosing my right tube,and am now recovering from surgery.Is IVF my only option with only one scarred tube?

yes, I have been married for 9 years now and despirately trying, I did finally get pregnant about 3 years ago but it was in my tube which they had to remove and my other tube is scarred severly and my only hope is IVF which I cannot afford. I am here for you as support because I know what it is like to have no one who understands your pain around and every other person I know is pregnant.
