Bromocriptine and conceiving

I have high prolactin levels and I was given Bromocriptine. This was about a month ago when I was diagnosed. How long does it usually take to lower my levels? And how soon can I start looking  forward to a pregnancy?

Hi!
That is different for everyone.  Sometimes we hit th correct dose right off the bat, and it works like a charm.  Other times it takes awhile to regulate the dose, but we can usually get it to work eventually.  Remember too, that if you have side effects with the Bromocriptine, there are other newer ( and more expensive ) medications that can also work.
Once your periods start to regulate, you will know you are on the right track.  At that point, you can start to use ovulation predictors to help confirm that you are ovulating. (High prolactin levels as you probably know inhibit ovulation).  Once you are ovulating, you should be able to conceive, unless there are other factors involved.  High prolactin levels have often been one of the easiest things to treat for me.  I've had good success with patients getting pregnant.

Remember if you do get a positive test, to call your MD right away and ask him/her if he/she wants you to continue or stop your Parlodel.  Management varies.

Good luck!

Hello, I just noticed your message here. Well bromocriptine is a pill the docotr prescribes to help with a couple of things. My reason Is high prolactin levels which basically means my prolactin levels are way too high and are preventing me from ovulating. Also it helps for other things. I would strongly suggest you do the same and have your gf get checked to see if there is anything worng with her hormones or if there is anything preventing her from ovulating.
