Clomid and ovulation

by bizbiz, Jun 17, 2007 12:00AM
After coming off BCP's, my cycle did not regulate on its own (anywhere between 30 - 50 day cycles), so my Gyn has put me on Clomid 50mg c.d's 2-5. I have a blood test done every cycle on day 21, and she always tells me that I have ovulated. However I have been doing a lot of reading about clomid and infertility and find that a lot of women get ultrasounds or FSH shots mid cycle because even though they have mature eggs for some reason they are not released from the ovary. I am now concerned - can my gyn tell just from a blood test that I am definantly ovulating, or could I be having mature eggs but they are not releasing? Doeds this blood test show that the egg has actually been released? I have been pregnant twice before - one pregnancy ended in a termination and the other a miscarriage.

A blood test, for progesterone, is actually more accurrate in my opinion then an ultrasound. Women who take clomid and have ultrasounds and HCG shots midcycle generally are women who are ovulating but still not getting pregnant. For women with irregular periods unless on clomid, I would not start out with ultrasound monitoring, shots, etc. The goal is to get you to ovulate regularly so that you can get pregnant.

Are you sure your clomid is being prescribed from 2-5 which is only 4 days? Usually, clomid is taken for 5 days, and from cycle days 3-7, 4-8, or 5-9..

Good luck.

To: Question RE: Clomid
I have a question regarding clomid, I took 50mg for five days at the begining of June and I should have ovulated five days after my last pill, how soon after you ovulate should you test for a pregnancy?.. This is all new to us?..  It's the only thing on our minds, can we be pregnant,. I fell crappy like I am about to get my period but I would not be due for it until June 29-30th , could this be an early sign?,,
Thanks...

To: Please help
I actually have a questions rather than a comment. I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but hopefully someone can help me out. My question is that my husband and I have been trying to get preganant. I have been off of birth control for 5 months and only had one period induced by drugs from the doctor. I have taken one cycle of 50 mg of Clomid and I am not pregnant and I have not gotten my period. I did ovulate though. I go to the doctor on Thursday to start my second cycle. Does anyone know if it's normal not to get my period and also about how many cycles on average does it take to get pregnant? Please help.
