Clomid issues

Finished first round of clomid dec. 23 - ended up now with two 4mm cysts and on day 20 started bleeding - Is such a short cycle possible with the clomid or is the bleeding not my period?  Blood work inconclusive if ovulation occurrred.

Dear jewel_13,

In order for me to accurately answer your question, I need a little more info. First, when you say you finished clomid on Dec. 23, do you mean that December 23 was your last day of clomid, or that was the day your bleeding started after your first month on clomid. Also, do you mean 4 mm, or 4 cm, regarding the size of your cysts? Four mm cysts would suggest you did not respond to the clomid or that the ultrasound was taken early in your cycle (1-5 days after the start of bleeding) whereas 4 cm cysts are larger and could be due to clomid, requiring that you rest a cycle. Regarding whether or not the bleeding was a true period, this depends on whether you ovulated or not. Any progesterone value greater than 3, and certainly greater than 5, suggests that you ovulated.

The short cycle is possible.

At the end of the day:

1) If you have 4 cm cysts, then you should sit out a cycle before starting clomid again. If 4 mm, this is not necessary

2) You and your provider need to decide if you ovulated or not. If you did not ovulate, then perhaps a higher clomid dose will be recommended. If you did ovulate, you could stay on the same dose, watching carefully for cyst reformation if you had 4 cm cysts.

Finally, if you do not have regular periods, then clomid with intercourse is a good treatment. However if your periods are regular even without clomid, it might be a good idea to add intrauterine insemination to your treatment.
