Day 13 FSH and LH Level

Day 13 FSH and LH Level

Hello Doctor,

My obgyn ordered some tests for me. My FSH on day 13 was 4.1 and LH on day 13 was13.6. Now my obgyn says based on the LH/FSH ratio that I have PCOS. How is it possible? My LH has to be high because of the surge. I ovulate on CD day 14/15. I have a 29 days cycle. What is bothering me if PCOS is calculated based on LH and FSH ratios then my FSH was in range and so was LH but my LH was more coz I was nearing ovulation. Help me please. Do I have PCOS just based on this ratio?

Hi!
I am in agreement with dscoqn that the tests are much easier to interpret if they are done on cycle day 3 instead of 13.  I am also in agreement with you that day 13 the LH should be rising for the surge.  I personally would not make the diagnosis of PCOS based only upon a blood test, I would need some additional criteria such as irregular periods or excess hair growth or insulin resistance, etc.
You may want to google PCOS and see if any of the other criteria fit in your case.
If you have regular periods, and ovulatory cycles, then I doubt that you have PCOS.
Depending upon why the tests were done, you may want to have a consultation with a reproductive endocrinologist.

Hope this helps!

I think your doc was meant to do those tests on day 3 not on day 13.  Every person I've ever talked to has had it done on day 3!
