Doxycycline therapy in father

Dr, I have been taking Doxycycline for 1 week. Does this drug adversely effect the sperm, can it cause damage to a possible fetus. In other words does it hurt the sperm so if succesful conception does take place, will it be putting the child for any birth defects or abnormalities. I also take Xanax for stress.

Hi!
Doxycycline won't cause any harm to the sperm.  We recommend that pregnant women avoid it because it can cause staining of the teeth of a developing fetus.  But there are no adverse affects in men.

I hate Xanax because it is so addictive, and usually recommend any other alternative that works.  There should be no harmful effects as far as birth defects or fertility issues though.

Hope this helps!
