Endometrial lining

Endometrial lining

Hi,

I've been trying to get pregnant for over a year and recently started fertility treatments. I had a transvaginal ultrasound which showed an endometrial thickening. I was given Lupron to see if it came down and by my next visit it was 4mm (this was about a week and a half ago). Since that time, I've been taking 75 mg of follistim and the endometrial wall is now 14mm. Aside from not getting pregnant, should I be concerned about endometrial cancer?  My reporductive specialist didn't seem worried after he saw that the lupron brought it down to 4mm.  Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi!
Lupron would not have worked on endometrial cancer. In other words, the lining would have stayed thick inspite of the lupron if you had cancer.  Also, 14mm is a very nice (optimal) number to have if you are hoping to conceive.  If you don't conceive, you should have a nice "healthy" period and the lining should become thin again and start over.

Since you are young and premenopausal, your lining should thicken and thin out monthly.  If you conceive it will take care of itself.  The only time you need to worry about endometrial cancer would be if you are not on any medications, and you are not having your period for prolonged periods of time (eg 6mos to 1 year).  Even then, we can usually reverse any changes by giving progesterone orally.

Good luck!
