False Positive?

by stuntgirl, Jun 16, 2009 12:38PM
Hi there!

Just wondering if you can get a false positive from an HPT after Donor Egg Transfer IVF 2 days before my blood test?  I had transferred 2 embryos on day 3 (june 6) and my scheduled blood test is Thursday June 18.  Because it was donor egg i did not have HCG shot before retrieval!

Also... is there a certain an HCG level i should be asking about on the 18th... could they possibly know if both embryos implanted by then?

Thanks!

Sorry... this is a repeat post by me... i believe i posted the first one in the wrong forum!

Hi!
No, you can't get a false positive on a HPT.  Even if they had used HCG, it should not affect the test result for more than a few days afterwards.  You just want a quantitative HCG level ( your RE will know what to order ) nothing special.  A quantitative HCG shows what your hormone level is so that it can be compared to values down the road--a qualitative HCG just shows positive or negative.
You can't tell by the levels whether one or two embryos are growing.  For that, you have to wait for the ultrasound!
Good luck!
