Heterotopic (Ectopic & Miscarry

My name is Hannah, I am 25 years old.  On 03/03 I had really bad stomach ache as I was pregnant I went to the hospital where they did a blood test.  This showed I had double the pregnancy hormone than normal. 48 hrs later another test showed my levels had dropped and had again on Friday. A scan showed baby was in my uterus. On the 7th March I had I miscarry whilst on a visit to hospital at 6 weeks, they sent me home 5 mins after with  just a large pad to put on car seat . On 9th March they also discovered I had an ectopic pregnancy.  I had a Lap on the 10th to remove my right fallopian tube.  Since then the pain in my right side is very bad not matter what pain killers they give me they don't ease it.  My belly is still very swollen.  I have been back to the hospital 4 times since my opp and they just take swabs and send me home!!  During the opp they found that my left tube and ovary were stuck to my pelvic floor. They also said my womb and liver was scared.  They said this was due to a pelvic infection i.e. STI/STD. which I and my family doctor know I’ve never had! Why am I still in agony and swollen? Doctors don't listen all they wanted to do is get my permission tp put my situation in the medical journal and not help me.  It's hard emotionally and i have been offered no help and being in agony does not help.

Hi Hannah, I was really sorry to read your story. You've had a really terrible time. I had an laperotomy to remove an ectopic 3 weeks ago (following a miscarriage 2 weeks earlier)and mine still hurts too just where the tube was removed, it's managable during the day but is excruciating in the morning when everything has stiffened up. Hannah, as I understand it not only STDs can cause such scaring - its not the only way to get pelvic inflamatory disease, you could just be unlucky - that seems to be the way with ectopics. If you haven't found it already then you must look at at this website for the ectopic charity. It was so helpful to me: http://www.ectopic.org.uk/medical_information/faq.htm I can't recommend it enough. My hospital were great while I was there but were very poor on aftercare advice, except in recommending this website. There is also a helpline open until about 4pm (I think) where you can speak to a nurse - if you have to leave an ansaphone message they do call back - the nurse I spoke to was brilliant. She was able to advise me on the physical side of pain management and could talk about all the emotional stuff too - although I was most bothered by the pain at the time. The best thing she said was that I had to walk around and that although that hurt it was the only way to get things healing properly - and it did bloody hurt too, but, it is getting better now. Hannah, I really hope that things get better for you soon.
