I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome...can i get pregnant?

i did some research after i was diagnosed with PCOS after an internal ultrasound. im only 18 years old. but the research that i found told me that im at high risk of being infertile...and have miscariges..and be at high risk of cancer..but the main thing i was thinking was when i go to have childen in the future..can i get pregnant?? i knwo the best idea is to get my ovaries removed when im a proper age but i just want to know some real facts about this and if it is true that i may not be able to get pregnant...please help me. I'm meeting with my gyno in october to discuss this with my anual but i dont iwant to wait that long to know some facts.

Hi!
Many many women have polycystic ovary syndrome.  It does not necessarily mean that you will end up having to have them removed, there are many good medications to treat PCOS now.  Part of the syndrome includes irregular periods.  This is caused by a failure to ovulate regularly.  If you don't ovulate regularly, your fertility is decreased compared with women who do ovulate monthly.
Recently, we have been having good success treating PCOS with Metformin.  In many cases it will cause ovulation and periods to resume, and therefore bring your fertility back to the normal range.  If the metformin doesn't do the trick, we sometimes add something like clomid.  In rare cases of PCOS, it may be necessary to go to IVF.  One way or another though, you most likely will be able to get pregnant.
One thing that is very important: You can't count on PCOS for birth control.  Most women with PCOS DO ovulate once in a while, and it can be very unpredictable, but "surprise" pregnancies are likely to happen if you don't use contraception.
For this reason, many women with PCOS regulate their cycles with birth control pills until they are ready to start their families.
I hope this helps!
Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome message,
I'm so glad for this forum,God bless the founder,
I am 24 years old and I  was disgnosed with pcos early 2008 and was placed on contraceptive pills and my period beacame regular, after 3months I stoped taking the pills and my period has been regular through out this year up until this month.
I missed my period and went for a test which was negative, I also went for an ultrasound which i do not understand, here is what the results look like.

(The bladder, uterus are normal)now check this out.

OVARIES:Both Ovaried are at the Upper Limits of normal size and have dense stroma,The left ovary contains degenerating remnants of a large Follicle,The right ovary contains tiny peripherally arranged Follicles.

I'm really freaking out now and I need to have an idea before my next visit to the gyna.

Thank u.
