IUI with clomid and hcg - the timing of the shot?

by ciara43, Oct 25, 2009 02:30PM
Hi,

I am 43. INo prior gynae/obs history.  have had 3 donor IUIs with no clomid and one with clomid, no success.  I am now going to try clomid with an hcg shot. They are planning to give me the shot the same time as the IUI. Is that OK, as most discussion boards seem to suggest IUI 24-36 hours after the hcg shot?

Also what are the success rates?

All info greatly appreciated.

Hi!
I have MOST commonly seen IUI done at 24-36 hours after the HCG trigger.  I have also seen two IUIs done on one cycle--one with the HCG and one 24-36 hours later.  I haven't seen the HCG and only one IUI done on the same day, but I also haven't seen everything!
If it is possible to do so, why not return later for the IUI? I am not convinced by what I have read that doing two IUIs per cycle is any more effective than one, and it is definitely more costly and time consuming--not to mention that you use the sperm up faster.
For a normally fertile female, the conception rate with IUI should approach 25% per cycle.
You have that one little issue of age though which (unfortunately) is going to reduce your success rate, and (also unfortunately) increase your miscarriage rate.
Most MDs say not to try more than 3 cycles of Clomid/IUI.  After that, you may want to go on to IVF.  DONT waste ANY time--whatever else you do!
I wish you the best!
