Is there a high chance husband is infertile?

by Praying4aLittleOne, Jun 29, 2009 12:20PM
Hi, My husband was born with undescended testicles. He did not have surgery to bring them down until he was about 12 years old. However, during the surgery they were only able to bring one down because the tube or cord for the other one was too short. We are both in our early twenties and have been married 2 years. We didn't start trying to conceive until a couple months ago. I can't help but worry that I may not be able to get pregnant. Are the chances of me getting pregnant still okay? Is it still possible for me to get pregnant?

Hi!
Since you are so young, I don't think you need to rush in for any testing.  Your husband is very likely fine. 85% of healthy, normally fertile couples will conceive within one year of unprotected intercourse.  If you haven't conceived within that amount of time, it might be a good idea at that point to get a semen analysis done.  They are not terribly expensive, and are easy to do if you would feel better having it done sooner.  Even if his counts are not stellar, there are lots of ways around that problem, so your prayers will very likely be answered!

Good luck!

Has your DH has a semen analysis??  It may be that his sperm count is perfectly normal but you won't know until you look into it.

Good luck!!

Hey, hon, one is enough.  Each ejaculation produces millions of sperm.  Nature is very prodigious!  Just have him to a sperm count before you start trying to conceive, so neither of you worries.

Ah, I re-read your question and saw that you have started ttc.  In any case, you are probably just fine, but if it is worrying either you or your husband, he can certainly get a sperm panel done.  Good luck!
